Just thought I'd start a thread to talk about success stories in finding bandmates or starting bands through boards.

Keep it good willed. We've all had a few bumps in the road but it'd be great to share the success stories with new Boardies

I'm in a band called Breaking Light. Started looking for a guitarist last April and after a few false starts met up with a guy who has the same taste in music and we just clicked musically.

We then recruited a drummer in June and a Bass Player in Feb this year.

So the entire band has come together through boards. We released our debut album 2 weeks agp and have gotten decent AirPlay and press coverage.

A long way to go but even if it ended here, we've had a blast so far.

I found not one, but two bands through this site (before I was mod I hasten to add)

Burma Shade was the first. Full new band formed. Raindog.promo was the guitarist, and I could be wrong but I think it was one of his first posts.

After that didn't work out, as these things often don't :D

I found spiceylauren looking for a bassist. I was already a fan, so it was easy enough.

But there is success stories through here.

If anyone has a magic way of attracting drummers to the site I'd be well interested to here about that!

And back on topic, I haven't found anyone through this forum directly, but I have through Boards PMs...

Have found boards.ie reasonably good for recruiting members in the past.

In recent times for a side project, not so much but previously 2 of 4 chapman society were found here.

With boards, you just have to be willing to go through a lot of spoofers/timewasters/weirdos and for every 20 of them there is 1 decent person who may or may not be suited to your band.

I've had a bit more success (people actually following up their "interest") in the past with gumtree. But in the 5 years or so I've used this site I've only found a drummer and a singer who did exactly what they said on the tin. The majority of people oversell themselves.
