You need to phone them up and get called in for an interview. They'll probably fob you off but you have nothing to lose by keeping at them.

Of course. Most vacancies aren't advertised. Companies usually have to get approval from HR to advertise a position. First it's advertised internally. Once it's advertised externally they will get hundreds of applicants. So you should try to get your CV to the hiring manager even before they advertise it externally.

YES! No one is going to come looking for you, you'll have to find your own job and the only way is a lot of persistence.

If good at maths and computers. Look to get a start in some sort of computer company. Most programming languages can be learned online and computers pay very well. I have 3 clever relatives who went to london after there LC and are all on major money now. Database management and software development etc. Ericssons would be one I would try not to mention London if willing to move.

Its the only industry I know that isn't crazy into qualifications etc. Its what you know not what your supposed to know.

Best job in the world if you love it!!

Frankly, you need to get an education. I've been chatting a lot with other MD's who report having people with seven years experience in their field and a PHd qualification applying for unpaid internships.

You might, if you get lucky and drop a CV to the right company at the right time get, for example, a part time retail job. But that's a very slim chance, as anyone creaming these jobs again likely come with experience working in the area.

Not a personal slight, but as an employer you are a low skilled, low experienced person who is no cheaper to employ these days than more experienced people who would not have been previously available.

If I were just out of the LC I'd go into education and stay there for a while.

Take your time, work out what you really want to do and go back to college and get qualified in that area. Continue looking for casual work now, whatever you can get, to save up some cash for college. Don't get stuck doing something now you are not crazy about. You'll end up doing it for years, hating and wishing you were doing something you enjoy more.

Seriously, it's not what you want to hear I reckon, but's it's your best plan. You've everything on your side if you've a decent leaving cert.

PS. Right now, with high unemployment, any computer / IT company will have their pick of graduates. It won't be you.

Apologies if this sounds negative, but it's very tough environment out there now and your best preparation is a qualification in something you are interested in.

A lot of places hate been rang asking if there is work going! I know from experience. Do you know what line of work you would like to do? If so try get in there, network - get to talk to people in that area of work, maybe then in a couple of years go to part time college and get qualified, just cause it didn't work out now doesn't mean you will never go.

One last tip - if you really can't get any work and are bored offer to work somewhere free - for experience, I know its not ideal but more chance of getting work with some experience behind you.

Good luck with it - I know people older than you with bills who won't get off their back-sides to even apply for jobs!

Forgot to mention it when posting the last time. If you do want to go back to college but afraid of having to pay fees due to dropping out consider an alternative route. i.e. When I was going to college if you did a Degree course and dropped out you could do a Certificate and Diploma/OLevel Degree without having to pay fees. Alternatively if you did a certificate you can now do a degree program. It may have changed not sure but keep it in mind it may save you a few K. I believe in the final year of your program i.e. going into the level 8 qualification you may then have to pay fees but by then you will know if you want to do the degree so it will be worth it!!!

I trained with a guy who did this and got a job in accounting after his ordinary level degree in business. He originally dropped out of an Science course in UCG.

The above poster is spot on. Theres too many people with degrees out there that cant get work, which will make it very difficult for you to pick up work.
Sit down over the next few days and try and figure out if you want / able to get back to college. Best of luck.

first off , yes you should go directly to the companies (most that have jobs available are not advertising too much because they end up with 1,000's of CV, ) so go visit them ,
but you should also consider another college course in the event of not getting a job ,
if it is IT Jobs your after .......go into Morganmckinley recruitment agency and speak with them , they have some stuff available
