I have XC90 2006, 2.4 Diesel, auto. There is an engine noise start coming from Friday and takes couple of tries when try to start the xc90 and it has less power when drive, shakes as well while driving. I also noticed smoke coming from the exhausts when started this morning. I brought to Volvo dealer on Friday and no error showed up on the computer. They reckon it is some sort of mechanical problem. Any idea what would be a problem and any good mechanic who know xc90 engine

This confirms what many say about main dealer 'mechanics', if the computer doesn't spell out whats wrong for them they haven't a clue.

Likelyhood is that any issue with fuel/spark/timing would have shown a fault on the diagnostics, so I'd be thinking of a loose/torn intercooler pipe or perhaps a turbo issue.
