My 12 year old is costing me a fortune renting all the gear when he goes airsoft with his mates. His birthday is coming up so I want to buy him everything he needs to get going. I dont know exactly what he needs apart from mask, vest, boots, gun. Hopefully someone here will be selling all he needs. Thanks

Some of the shops might be willing to do a package deal on most of that so give the likes of SE-Airsoft, Eirsoft, Hobby Airsoft, etc. a call and see what they say. There's a full list of retailers over on the Airsoft Retailers thread for a more exhaustive list of Irish retailers.

    For a brief check-list of everything that you'll need to cover;
    • Gun (of your son's particular preference, be it an AEG, bolt-action, etc. although i would recommend an AEG starting out)
    • Magazines *
    • Battery (sometimes come with gun, not always .. check)
    • Battery charger (sometimes come with gun, not always .. check)
    • Mask
    • Ammunition, i.e. BBs - standard is 0.2g weight (just in case you pick up some god-awful yellow 0.14g pieces of crap by mistake), although 0.23g & 0.25g will do just fine as well.

    Optional
    • Camouflage clothing
    • Vest
    • Water bladder (i.e. a Camelbak); you'll thank yourself for buying this when in the heat of summer your son doesn't come back to you collapsed from dehydration.

The boots you might need to sort separately, but a pair of Magnum classic boots should do ok I guess without spending silly money. if you're up around Dublin, I recall Army Bargains on Little Mary Street selling them but can't remember prices. You can order them from UK-Tactical who have them listed at GBP£50 at the moment.

    * Depending on what type of magazine (hi-capacity, mid/lo-capacity) the amount would vary, but bare bones; a couple of high-capacity magazines will do just fine.

The difference between hi/mid/lo capacity magazines is that high-capacity hold lots of BBs (300-500 depending), they are manually wound by the player over the duration of use. They also have the "smartie tube" rattle thing going on when you run because all of the BBs rattle.

Mid cap magazines hold roughly 80-120 rounds a piece and are fed by spring so no smartie rattle or manual winding. Low cap are more akin to real life capacity so 30 - 50 rounds.

i think you would be smart to take the first guy suggestions all made seance and a shot gun is not a good gun for a beginner. id look through this site to see if you can pick up some deals or maybe visit some shops to get an idea of how much all the gear is.:)

    this is good shop

Of course be simple with his first gun, M4's and G36's are popular and well priced, For clothing HobbyAirsoft.ie is best of all, For the Guns you should take a look at AirsoftEire (www.airsofteire.com) or Quality Airsoft Supplies (www.qualityairsoftsupplies.com/)

A Spetznatz for €150 new, Flektarn uniform will cost from €10 in rathcoole, helmet from €18, no point spending much on boots as he still has a lot of growing to do so Dr. Martins would do. Good gloves maybe €20. Taurus 24/7 for €95 non blow back means co2 bulbs last longer.

    Must ask one question though,
Where is a 12 year old permitted to play?

He used to play in bray but that seems to be closed so now he goes to ashford somewhere.
