Starting to build the blocks next week just wondering how much floor insulation you think i should put in. I am going to put in underfloor heating and use a floor screed mix. Do i put any insulation on 1st floor hollowcore slabs?

Thanks for your help - great to get others opinions!

go for the max amount you have space for, do the U-value calc and try to get down to 0.1wm2/k, but also consider how your stopping thermal bridges around the perimeter walls + any walls coming from foundations. you should consider the above carefully ESpecially if your going for underfloor heating.

re hollcore slabs again ensure you've no thermal bridges ie the slabs are resting on the inner leaf block correctly.

are you going for MVHR, you should also be considering the air-tightness of you build.

What advice is your architect or engineer giving you?

to be honest sinnerboy i didnt ask architect because i asked him several things in the early stage of designing the house and he hadnt a clue my self and my wife designed the house and gave to a architect to submit to council so we are learning everything as we go along. This is why i value others opinions. I was thinking about putting in 50-75mm of high density insulation. Is that enough or overkill?? Cheers

With UFH you are looking at about 120mm of insulation on the ground floor and 40mm on the upper floor

You need a new Architect. Quickly .

You should really take a look at the current Building regulations TGD L 2008 and ensure your dwelling is being built in accordance with them. Additionally, your county council may have requested DEAP Calculations to ensure your building will be compliant. These calculations will answer the extent of Insulation you require throughout your house.

You need 120mm floor insulation at a minimum. I put two 60mm insulation crossed over each other to prevent any gaps appearing and to get my u-value. You need to go to a ber accessor to decide what BER rating you want, and then he can let you know exactly what materials you. For roughly 300 euro its the best money you will spend on the house.
