Estate vs 7 seater dilemma

Planning to change cars soon, A4 too small with 2 growing kids.
I would like to get something like this Legacy http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2076385.

My wife is eyeing up a Voyager like this http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2162848.

Would i shift the legacy handy enough in a year if the family was to expand? Is the AWD/4WD likely to cause trouble and expensive repairs at that age or are the reliable?
Is anything else prone to failure?
I just want to avoid the Voyager like the plague!

subarus are generally reilable once looked after, its usually imprezas with the crap driven out of them and not looked after that give trouble, id go for the legacy lovely cars will be heavy on petrol but so will the voyager

I don't do huge mileage, 20kms to work and a few short trips at the weekend, so fuel use shouldn't be too high.

You're right to avoid the voyager. The legacy is ample enough for 2 kids.

I love the Subaru Legacy and wouldn't buy an old Voyager if it was €50 - you would be heartbroken with it -

Good compromise would be a Volvo V70 with 2 rear facing seats should you need them.

I wouldn't mind a V70, they are just a bit more dated looking than the Legacy, probably a lot less to go wrong though.

I abused an old used 2.2 Picnic (company yoke) for over 2 years and couldn't fault it. The only attention it got in over 60K miles was tyres and irregular services and literally nothing went wrong with it. That said it was so basic that there was nothing to go wrong.

OP, like that subaru but shifting it on could be problematic. The market for old high powered/high mileage petrol Subarus is fairly limited. The Voyager would be awful and not a safe way of carting your family about. Get an estate if you don't need the 7 seats.

Thanks everyone, whatever about buying the Legacy or V70 i know i definitely won't be buying a Voyager.
