Is there any pro golfer that you just don't like?

Whether you have a reason or just don't like him/her, is there any golfer you don't like?

I have never warmed to Goosen. I just don't like him. He never seems to smile or take any enjoyment from playing. Even when he wins something it's like he's grimacing rather than smiling.

Colin Byrne spoke quite highly of him

VJ is disliked by many , not my fav either
Or Kenny Perry and his likes....... The us pro's who will not travel to play the open

Hard to dislike any of them really, even if they are not enjoying it when they should be it's hard to tell whats really going on in their heads, could just be intensity or pressure. Or even the simple fact that it's their job, hitting golf balls every day no matter how enjoyable it would seem to us has got to loose it's novelty after a while.

Rather than the ones I dislike I would rather mention the ones I like.

Bubba, K.J , Donald , Harrington , Freddie , Cabrera , Love Garcia when he's loosing it too.

I'm with you on Goosen. I really went off him when he started the mind games prior to final round of which was going to decide the Euro order of merit between himself and Harrington. It was all about how slow Harrington played and he hoped it would not be like that in final round. Was not a fan of Poulter but have warmed to him after the Ryder Cup he got his pick in, great performance with pressure on him to justify Faldo picking him after not turning up at last tournament to try and win his place automatically.

Mickleson for what he said about Irish women.

You don't visit a man's house and tell him his wife is ugly, whether it's true or not.

Not a top player but Welshman Stephen Dodd gets my vote. He won the Irish Open and European Open a few years back. He could be a very nice chap but just looks utterly miserable on the course and rarely shows any emotion even after his 2 big wins.

Big fan of Goosen's swing but agree the comments made above. Can be a bit of a whinger too.

    Sergio Garcia.

There's just something in his public manner and character that is offputting to me. Whether the petulance/bad attitude is the manifestation of frustration at a lack of fulfillment of a seemingly greater golfing talent than the results indicate, or, whether a flawed character has hobbled his game, is open to debate.

    He never said that.
Phil was unfairly either misunderstood, or deliberately misinterpreted when an attempted lighthearted (poor) joke wasnt delivered well.

Shame on you for still picking on him for something he never intended.

From what I have heard of big Phils faux pas it went something like this.

He was having a bad day at the office and had just leaked another drive into the dunes. He was overheard saying "I don't know what I'm doing up here with the ladies, and there not even good looking"

I may stand corrected in the actual wording.

Sabbatini is an awful twat... I quite like Goosen, I think his laid-back manner is often misunderstood for moodiness.

Poulter, I kinda want to like him but every now and then I just think "what a peen-a*se..." I also think he's an over-rated player.. .although as I type this Sky Sports just showed him rolling in an eagle putt on a par four :D

Harrington..... wrecked my head since I started watching him... so many annoying traits... how he won 3 majors remains one of the most unbelievable achievements of all time, has to get credit for that.... (although Tiger was out for 2 of them when at his prime)... and his wife lol....(k/a pritstick on tour)

Don't agree with Goosen views, I would love to have his mental balance on the course...:D

So you damn him without actually knowing what he said, not fair. What he said was "That's not a place I want to be. The Irish women are not that attractive.".....meaning that the women aren't so attractive that he kept booming the ball into the rough to see them. We know what he meant, he was a 21 yr old kid who got his joke wording wrong. I was a steward at that Walker Cup and followed him during practice, he's a gentleman.

Back on topic Goosen, miserable git. Vijay, say no more. Sergio, bad-tempered badly behaved. The Daddy of them all, Tiger Woods, a foul tempered, filthy mouthed, club throwing, rude spoilt brat narcissist, it's a shame he is so good, as a human being he is sorely lacking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 775 ✭✭✭Woodgate

Most definately Rory Sabbatini, what an ars*hole!!!!

After that I have really gone off Sergio after all the Harrington stuff, and as others have mentioned I'm undecided on Poulter, great in the Ryder Cup but used to think he was a d*ckhead.

Read my post again. I did not damn him. What I did finish with was I may stand corrected, and that is what you just did. I bow to your superior knowledge.

On another note Big Phil is known as "Red Eye" on the US Tour as the only time he smiles is when a camera is on him;)

Fair enough, you didn't damn him. All reports say that he tips course staff very well at tour venues and is a decent guy. We can agree to disagree.

Tiger Woods makes me turn away sometimes,a) because he could be so good and b) he's an anthole.

Apart from that, could never warm to Jim Furyk, just boring to watch and Poulter sometimes-see him today when the camera went off,why not let his caddy do the talking?

Always thought Mark James was OK until I was following his group which included Darren Clake at the European Open at the K Club. Was standing beside him as he played a long approach to the green. He hit a brave and what I thought was a great shot only to bounce off the bank and into water. As he played the shot I said great shot assuming it was straight at the flag.

He turned around and proceeded to abuse me. Fair enough I thought, we all hate to be complemented on our bad shots.

But the f***er wouldn't let it go for the next 2 holes and stared me out of it every chance he got. So much so I decided to leave the group because I didn't want to be the cause of affecting his concentration.

Always thought afterwards "what a w***er"

Couple of people have mentioned Furyk... I'm very surprised, I always thought he seemed like a decent, classy guy. I like how he gets the very most out of his golf game too... and ages 15years on the 18th green when he takes his hat off :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,982 ✭✭✭Trampas

Woods when he isn't near the top of leaderboard. Nothing worse watching people who have no chance of winning and taking all the coverage.

    Poults has grown on me.

Don't like Sab. Harrington can be annoying. Rory also cause of his immature head.

    Casey seems arrogant.

Larrazabal needs a good slap at times. Awful quitter.

    Like Jimenez and Quiros.

    Sergio Garcia, petulant brat.

I don't know why people are mentioning Furyk & Mickelson, both complete gentlemen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭minstrel_boy

I like Jim furyk. Followed himself and Harry at turnbury and they got on like a house on fire.
Also like big Phil, bubba, dj, Luke, Harry, goydos, love III & fowler.
Don't like goosen, casey, Clarke or poults(although I like to see poulter compete, as he keeps things interesting)

Followed Clarke and Cabrera at the k club one year. Cabrera was a gent, Clarke a miserable git.

Sabbatini's continuous upset at slow play and him racing round as fast as he can is extremely annoying. The f*%ker doesn't know how good he has it, spending all those hours on the best courses in the world

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭boz13

    Dont like Poulter,Westwood and McIlroy.

McDowell has really grown on me last couple of years.

Watching and listening to sky so much has probably put me off the 3 above.

    David Duval

Remember him? World number 1 and then disappeared.

Me and a few friends went to the JP McManus organized event in Limerick. This is way back, around 1999 and we were golf mad teenagers

Asked for an autograph as he was in the carpark.
With his wrap around glasses, I got a sneering look and he walked past me.

My friends got much the same reaction, there were quite a lot of comments about the bould David Duval

Can't say I was said to see him sink down the world rankings

    Another vote for Tiger.

Even when he was miles ahead of the rest and playing great golf I couldn't stand him. He's lack of respect for the fan's and media is appalling. After the master's his interview showed so much contempt for someone just doing their job.

Mark James was notorious on tour for being a sour puss. His best pal is Ken Brown. Brown gave 8yr old me a personalized tee in the locker room at the
1979 Irish Open and made my day. To this day, for me, Ken Brown walks on water!

Never had time for Faldo or Monty as people.

Monty comes across real pleasant when things are going his way, but when not, he blames anybody around him..Remember the remarks he made to cameraman few years back, that was low.

I like Harrington he comes across bit of knob but I think some of it is shyness from what I see. Also like Phil great time for the fans.

JB Holmes...unbearable to watch. Much rather Bubba Watson.

Also hate it when players win big tournaments and show little if any emotion - Stephen Dodd as someone said earlier, Lucas Glover after winning the US Open, and of course the eternally dull Goosen.
