ATM card replaced without my knowledge?

As I NOW have understood, PTSB issues new cards to replace the ATM-Card.
I found out about this today, on a saturday, after calling their hotline.

According to them i have been sent a letter in March (never received it) and what i can only assume a new card. I have gotten none of this. Nor any confirmation, calls or anything. Can they do this? Wouldn't i have to confirm my address or atleast give my consent in them sending such a vital thing as a creditcard to my address?

I'm fuming right now. And the guy on the phone wasn't helping much either.
He basically, in finer ways, called me an idiot for not listening to him and that it's MY responsibility to keep track of my letters from them.

HOW CAN I KEEP TRACK OF SOMETHING I HAVEN'T GOT??

Oh.. The icing on the cake came when i asked what i was supposed to do now, since i have no cash-money and no way of accessing them?

"-I guess there's not much you can do now, is there? Is there anything else we can help you with?"

...theres a couple of other options...if you know someone else with a PTSB account you can do a transfer to there account and they can take the cash out for you today.
If you're in Dublin there's a branch out near Blanch open till 2, not sure where but I'm sure you can check it on their website?
PTSB also have this service where you can get cash from an ATM without a bank card...you can get 100e...came in handy for me when I lost my card.

Did you check to make sure they had the correct address for you?

How so? Banks send you stuff all the time without calling..

Firstly, it's not a credit card, it's an atm card.

Secondly, without the pin, it's just a redundant piece of plastic.

Thirdly, from the fact that you refer to the bank verifying your address before sending something out, I can only assume that the problem in your case was that they sent the card to a previous address. If so, the fault lies entirely with yourself I'm afraid. Banks (or any other business/public service for that matter) are not telepathic. It is entirely the customer's responsibly that they verify that their bank (and other entities) have the most recent address.

I checked around in Blanch but all banks were closed. I did end up using the Emergency Cash-option. Thanks for informing me. :)
I haven't changed any address since november, and i've been sent numerous letters from TSB (statements) to the correct address.

Bankstatements and creditcards are two different things. No one can use my bankstatements to try phishing. Which they might do with a creditcard.

The guy on the phone clearly specified that my ATM-card would be exchanged to a creditcard. Which baffled me since i already HAVE a Visacard.

    In his own words:

"-Look. Did you not just hear what i said? Forget about the visacard for a moment, we will send you a new creditcard that will replace your atm-card."

I have been sent letters on regular basis, so the address in their system is correct. I haven't received anything slightly related to a card. Nor any letter about updating the very same.

Actually, that's incorrect. Without your PIN number or Internet/telephone banking info, the card is practically useless as it's not active. Banks statements obtained, however, can be much more useful to fraudsters.

    I stand corrected. :)

permanent tsb have changed from laser to visa debit. it is used in exactly the same way as a laser card but its more convenient as you can use it abroad etc. most banks are heading this way. The've been automatically phasing this in over the last 6 months or so.

and no I dont work there.

I'm very confused by all this. Credit cards and ATM cards are 2 completely different things. I can't imagine any conceivable way they would replace your atm card with a credit card. Given that you are with PTSB, are you sure they are not referring to your debit card (ie Laser Debit is being replaced with Visa Debit)?

I currently have the Open 24 card, and Ice Visa.
He explained that the Open 24 card was to be replaced with a credit card. Which to me sounded fairly redundant as i already have a Visa-card. So yes this is confusing to me aswell.

I'll be giving them a call today to see what this is all about.

Are you sure he said credit card, not debit card?

Laser and seperate ATM cards are basically gone. All the banks are moving, or have already moved, away from Laser/ATM cards to a combined Visa Debit card - transactions are processed similar to a credit card but the money debits straight from your current account and it also functions as your ATM card.

I'm dead sure, since this is what made me confused.

If he'd say that they would change it into a debitcard it would make more sense.

I have an open 24 card for 7/8 years now and it has never been changed ( and I havnt changed the address so I would know)..however something very similar happened to me with BOI
I hardly ever go into the bank but this particular day I did (I had taken cash out at the ATM on the way into the bank) anyway when I went to use my card inside the bank the teller said my card had been recalled 2 years previously (noone ever told me and it worked away fine) and the bank had a message to take it off me....which she did. It was a friday evening of a long weekend and I was 100miles from my own branch, she refused to give me back the card and asked how much money I needed until my card was replaced (which took nearly 2 weeks as my own branch couldnt find the replacement card which they admitted they had 'somewhere'). I had no card and great difficulty getting money for two weeks as I was never near the bank when it was open... I promptly closed thet account and went to PTSB....
