    Ouch.

What is your current time on Amanda, Transform?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

If you're standardising the workouts for regional events then all the regional events should have been on the same day. Workouts look decent except workout 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭Poncherello

I think they have made a mistake doing this. I understand why but dont agree with it.
I dont see why the Regionals cant have different workouts.
You are always going to find the best crossfitters with 2/3 days of competition.
Releasing them ahead of the event goes against the whole ethos of the competition which is preparing for the unknown.
    Its a pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

as someone that is actually competing - I dont give a toss.

I am going to rock up and do it and all 59 other guys in my region have the same advantage/disadvantage I have so I dont really care about other regions as they are not my competition.

regards crossfit amanda - doing it this week so will let you know.

Did the second wod today and got to 100kg thruster and failed 105kg. Did it again 2mins after to try it out again and worked up to 95kg (got it) and left something in the tank.

Did a 1000m row x 3 and deadlift wod eariler in the day also

Here is crossfit amanda for those that dont know what it involves - remember thats a
60kg squat snatch so try even an overhead squat with 60kg to get an idea as to how hard that is.

Oh and chris spealler is ohhh about 65kg in weight!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

    Its all kicked off.

    Aussies killing it already -

PLenty of action happening in the south regions of the states right now also

The wod was muscle ups and squat snatches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,900 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

    lol sorry meant Power Snatchs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

nope its got to be a squat snatch so you cant power snatch and then overhead squat.

some great videos being put up at the moment from the 4 regions that just went last weekend.

This video explains amanda for the regionals -

amazing photos also on the crossfit games facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/#!/CrossFitGames

Very entertaining viewing so far. Have been following the games website which I must say is doing a great job of covering the various events. This guy caught my eye a week or two ago on the games website:

    http://games.crossfit.com/features/videos/lucas-parker-teen-wolf

Lucas "Teen Wolf" Parker - the guy's only 21 years old (looks a good bit older) and finished top of the Canada West regional. He's definitely got his nutrition dialled in if the above vid is anything to go by:eek:

But wats the reason behind it.
I could understand if P.Squats made it easier but they don't (in terms of max weight). It's still a legal snatch. If the point of the WOD is speed then I don't see how power verses squat snatch is different than kipping verses regualr pull-ups.

I alwasy think that some Crossfitters look like they try to squat too much, as in they drop lower into the squat after the snatch to do it right rather than how they actualy snatch.

Might be something to do with the fact that if you go to any olympic lifting coach they wont allow you to power snatch for ages (i have not done a heavy one in about 4-5 months now) - really until you can squat snatch very very well.

Power snatching just promotes poor technique if you are starting out as most people just end up muscling the bar up any old way

A squat snatch is more technical also

But what's the way olympic lifting coachs train oly lifters have to do with CF?
Any olympic lifters wouldn't let their guys train CF, and would certainly have a few things to change about the form of even the top CF guys.

Just found it strange when Amanda was Squat snatch but Elizabeth, Grace and Isabel are clean/C&J/snatch any which way

anyway, back to the regionals. Are you planning on do a test run on any of the WODs for the weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

Essentially the squat snatch workout is just one of 6 workouts where points are up for grabs so you got to have good work capacity on all the movements not just one event.

Regards doing a test run. I dont think its a good idea to do a test run as thats like a guy training for a decathalon or some simplar event trying to go flat out on hit say 100m sprints a week before the event - it just does not happen.

Yes i have done the movements individually or practiced at heavier or lighter weights e.g. two weighted muscle ups (10kg) and two squat snatches (60kg) on the minute every minute for 6mins or 200m run 10 handsatand press ups x 4 rounds and then a 500m row.

Its going to be a cracking event and this video gives a good summary of last weekends regionals that have passed. it has been fantastic coverage and really feels like a live tv event at times

And of course another great video to boot featuring the ladies of crossfit. Guys got work to do to keep up with these -

    Boom!

Weight lifting, pull ups, running with a wheel barrow, rope climbing,am I missing something? it doesnt look all that.

    Very glossy in presentation though.

Fair play to the "ladies", but its not really a guys event.

Find your nearest Crossfit box, drop down and give a few of the WOS's a go ;)

Tip: don't eat beforehand, and bring a change of clothes and a bag to be sick into :)

    Theyre just poseurs.

GTL and then a couple of push ups.
    It's actually a relaxing activity.
The 295lb (134Kg) thruster in workout 2 of the regionals looks like a doddle.

Considering all the injuries I've read about, I'm surprised they are still getting people to do timed box jumps.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

Will 2nd, and Transform 6th in WOD 2. up to 10th and 8th.

great work out of the irish contingent! (yes im claiming Tina as Irish for these purposes!)

It'd be easy enough to make things a lot safer (make people step down from the boxes etc) but tony budding appears to be in charge...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭podge57

This sums up most of the stuff about the box jumps

    http://www.cathletics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6157

I know you can get injuries doing any form of exercise, but it doesn't seem there is much thought put into safety when they're making up these workouts

Through reading stuff here i ended up on the mainsite.

Now, I have defended crossfit in the past, and would do it again.
And obviously the box jump thing is a concern.

But have a look at the mainsite WOD from Thursday.

It prescribes Dumbell Hang Split Snatches........

    And Jebus wept.

I swear, Tony Budding is like one of the manatees from that south park episode, y'know the ones who write family guy?

Anyway, fair play to the lads.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

I've said it before ad i'll say it again; anyone who follows mainsite is a clown.

I think they accidently remedied the box jumps a little by the standard they have this year. It reduces the stupid pogo stick jumps a bit but yeah they're still not the safest

Good stuff into day 2, they need to come top 14 here right to qualify for day 3.

Transform was very close to being right up there, if he got the next truster he was in 3rd place. And obviously I mean that without any slight on his proformance, just before some pricks makes out that I did

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Satanta

I like the fact that you can easily get brandx scaled workouts from the main site.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

Brandx is not a reason to use main site. There is no reason to do mainsite and if you're just doing mainsite alone without any supplementary work that's even worse. If you're not working out at a box i'd pick a 'reputable' box and follow there workouts rather then waste your time doing stupid f*cking workouts like rolly pollys for time
    • Sub in a movement if you're no where close to being able to do the movement (muscle ups)
    • Use a lighter weight
    • Do Use less reps
    • Do a combination of the above

Mellor, yeah it's top 14 through to the final day.

This is a genuine question so don't think I'm having a go, but isn't the main crossfit site the site from which the others are affiliated from?

I'm using the brandx workouts as a suppliment to a 3 day/week weights program. And I wouldn't do a rolly poly if you paid me. Today's is

    Pack: For time: 75 Pull-ups 50 Kettlebell swings, 24kg 75 Double-unders 95 pound Overhead squat, 50 reps or For time: 75 Pull-ups 75 Kettlebell swings, 16kg 75 Double-unders 65 pound Overhead squat, 75 reps Women - 12kg/35-45

Puppies: For time: 30-50 Pull-ups (Beginner or assisted okay) 30 Kettlebell swings, 8-12kg 30-50 Double-unders pvc-25 pound Overhead squat, 30-50 reps

    Doesn't seem unreasonable

Dumbbell hang snatches are ok... hang split snatches with a DB are just being awkward as f*ck and unproductive for the sake of being 'Crossfit'.

Anyone got updates on how Will and Dom are getting on?? Really rooting for the guys. Hope they get thru.

Squod there's no split there :p

Only because they have to in order to use the crossfit name. The programming on main site is fairly(and i'm being nice here) crap. Like I said you'd be much better off following a decent affiliates programming. They'll tend to not put in stupid things like rolly pollys and 800m of lunges with a 45lb plate overhead.
    Regional workout 4 ...
Personally I think that it's a hideous work out and it's going to destroy your hands, this is evident from the millions (slight exaggeration) of photos I've seen from the regionals of peoples hands looking like they've been through a blender.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

Hanley; Transform came 17th in the deadlift box jump and Will came 16th. 3 seconds separated them. Transform is joint 8th, will is 11th. A good showing so far and a decent workout 4 will see them through to the final day. Unfortunately Transform is 17 points behind third (the final qualifier) and Will is 20 points behind after the first 3 workouts so it will be hard to qualify for the games :(

    Thanks for the update buddy!!!

Do any of the final day workouts play to the lads strengths??

And where are you following all of this from?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭Molly

    The final 2 workouts are

    Amanda

    9-7-5
    60Kg 'Squat' Snatch
    Muscle ups

    and

    20 Calorie row
    30 Burpees
    30 Dumbbell ground-to-overhead (45lb / 35lb)
    30 Toes-to-bar
    100 foot Overhead walking lunge (45lb plate / 25lb)
    50 foot Sprint

I know Will has a decent snatch as he did quite well in the nationals recently and Transform seems to have a decent row. Outside of that I do not know their strengths/weaknesses

The european regional site is here http://games.crossfit.com/regions/europe/leaderboard

No live video but there are twitter updates and random photos

Both lads through to the last day. Great work by both of them. Will did WOD 4 in 23:39 taking 17th and Transform took 20th in 24:24. They are both tied for 13th going into the last day on 57 points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭gavkm27

Hey well done to both the Irish lads for flying the flag.
There is a lad from Cork by the name of David O'Dowling who has qualified for the games as part of SouthernXfit team- Perth Australia, for the affiliate cup.Dave was 16th individually after the open, but pulled out of that for regionals and their team got 3rd,so good luck to him and keep an eye out for him during the games.
