Nor sure if they have a squat rack, but I can tell you that smith machines are focal use.....

There's a smith, two power racks, a pair of freestanding racks and one of those gigantic bastarding keiser racks, which can be used as a normal squat rack.

My gym has a smith machine for benching and squating but I've only tried it once. As they've no squat rack, I'm now using dumbbells and the excercise is a lot tougher as you're using all those little muscles trying to keep the weights going up and down in a straight line - my gym doesn't have an olympic barbell either.

There's four months left in my membership there so I'm torn between two options:
    • Join a different gym which has a power cage
    • Buy a power cage and olympic weights set for the garage

I'm kind of leaning towards the second option because:
    • I'll have no gym membership to pay
    • No transport costs to and from the gym
    • No time wasted travelling to and from the gym
    • No time wasted waiting around for the power cage to be free
    • No feeling rushed by other people waiting on me to finish in the power cage

Jeez, when I put it in a list like that, it seems a no-brainer. Also, unlike cheap argos gear that's a dime a dozen for sale second hand, good equipment holds its value well - I'd anticipate at least a 60 - 70% resale value.
