Does this hallucination sound safe?

When I was younger, there was a craze going whereby a person would try a self induced hallucination, I think it was referred to as “the American dream”. It basically involves two simple processes

    (1) Bend down and take in very deep breadths for about 30 seconds or more, and
    (2) Then grab the throat

What would happen then is that the person would go unconscious and experience crazy hallucinations. It has just come back to me now, and while it was cool, I am wondering if this sounds safe? I didn’t know anybody who was injured doing this, but I wouldn’t like to put myself at risk in doing something like this if I was to ever attempt it again, if only out of curiosity.

Generally, suffocating yourself isn't that safe. So I'd have to say that this isn't either.

If you are unconscious, you can't have hallucinations, by definition.
It's basically, forcing yourself to pass out, and have a dream of sorts.
I'm not going to comment on how safe or dangerous it is as I don't think it should be dicussed in a place like this.
It would be incredibly dumb for somebody to do this alone, Michael Hutchence anyone?

Just for clarity. It's not suffocation, its cutting off the blood not the air. It's the same as a fighter getting "choked" out in an MMA fight (if they don't tap soon enough or at all), it's common enough and they normal come around after a few seconds
