I was a kid when Bill Clinton spoke in that spot in 1995 and there were tens of thousands of people present. The crowds were literally from Grafton Street to O'Connell Bridge.

I wouldn't advise anybody take any small children to the event (though they invariably will - what do 3 year olds care about Obama anyway?)

Pity about the site. Although historic, a more open site might have been more appropriate, such as the Phoenix park (how Papal) or even just O'Connell Street.

Why do the organisers insist on using that street corner for such events ?
I can only imagine its because it looks impressive on tv.

But its a useless place to hold an event for an audience. And dangerous too.

Unless you get a spot directly in front of the bank colonnade, you won't see a thing. Elsewhere there are trees in the way.

And if you are up front in a good spot - plan your escape route, as it can get very packed there when people in Dame, College and Grafton streets move forward to catch a glimpse of the occasion.

I was there the night the Irish soccer team came back from Italia 90 and witnessed people close to being crushed to death.

I've no doubt that crowd control will be much more civilised for Obama but I certainly won't be going there and I definitely wouldn't bring small children.

Why couldn't they host this in the Point or Lansdowne Road if they were worried about not selling out Croke Park ?

College Green is one of the worst places they could stage it.

Where will the stage be setup ?

Its traditionally set up behind the railings in the courtyard of the Bank of Ireland.

What time will Obama be speaking approximately? Security gates will open at 14:00, but the pre-speech entertainment won't start until 17:00 so he mightn't speak until around six or seven o' clock?

It is quite simple why his speech will take place here and that is because the building itself will provide circa 250 degrees of potential bullet protection leaving security officials a much smaller distant area to police. In other words, less places for snipers to hide.

I'm not sure how I feel about being in there from 2pm and waiting til 7pm!

Does anyone know what time he is to speak?

That's what's putting me off too, along with the fact that I'll probably get crushed in the crowd.

Yes, but now consider how much you want to go see him speak, and how bothered you will be afterwards if you don't...

I was thinking of bringing an umbrella but have been told I probably won't be allowed take it beyond the barriers...

OK, so what will this "pre-speech" entertainment be? Because if I'll have to wait around in the rain for hours listening to some boring music then I might as well just watch Obama's speech on TV at home.

I'm sorry to say it could include Jeward.
    and Jedward fans.
