2 job offers HELP

I got a job last week in a 5 star hotel, paying €8.65 an hour, then today I got another job offer from a local restaurant for €9.30 an hour I think.

The hotel manager said I would make a lot of tips, but the problem with that job is its an hour away and would have early starts. id be on part time contract but could work loads of hours because its a hotel. thats what the manager said

the other job, I would probably make tips, about 15 mins away from my house by car, but no bus goes there so would have to get a taxi which would be €15. and she said it would be part time

I have to meet the restaurant manager tonight, should I just go hear her out and then make my decision

which one seems better ?? :/ so confused in case I make the wrong decision

The part-time job could easily turn into a full-time job, especially somewhere like a restaurant.

yes that is true, but to me I feel like a 5 star hotel is better than working in a restaurant which I have already done for 2 years

Chance are you could make tips in the hotel too! The 15euro taxi fare isn't necessarily worth the extra wages.

If it was me I'd go for the hotel job. I can't tell ya exactly why, as I don't think there's too much to choose between them (from your description). I just think the hotel could have more opportunities n stuff, and you could get more hours!

to be honest I feel like I want the hotel job more but I still should go to chat with the manager of the restaurant today

Absolutely! Keep your options open for as long as possible! You never know, the restaurant manager might just say something to sway you!

I do think you're right though, the restaurant would be what I'd choose!

I went and had a chat with the restaurant manager, she was quite vague with what my job would entail but she said I'm on a trial basis :/

I'm guessing that answers your question then? Well maybe not answers you question, but has cemented what you were already thinking?

Yes but 1 thing that concerns me is the hotel manager said I COULD be working until 1am or even more or whatever which I don't mind but how would I get home.. a taxi would cost me a fortune from st stephens green because I live in clondalkin.

and a 5 star hotel is hardly going to let me stay there until 6am until buses start back

Dunno if the case now but when worked in McDonalds years ago & up North, when we were on the closin shift we'd get the Taxi paid on the company account. Dunno if it might be available option at all?? Was only for closin like when was about 4/5 all leavin and jump in 1-2. Don't think they woulda gave ya one if only person gettin out a hour early or sumfin.

Last job was in didnt mention it, but seen taxi accounts pass every so often when doin the post. Dunno who got them as was never made aware of any but it coulda been useful gettin to & from work insteada the trains & buses.

Is the Nitelink not available to you ?

Maybe you need to see what arrangements they have made for employees to get home. It would be unusual if there wasn't something in place to ensure you got home safely.

I would almost imagine they have an arrangement with a hackney firm.

yes but only for friday and saturday, It could be weekdays id be doing those kind of hours but they wouldnt be that busy then I presume :/

they asked would travelling be a problem and I said no because I didnt think it would but then near the end of the interview they mentioned the hours I didnt want to say it to them then that travelling at that time would be hard unless I get a taxi, but they know where I live and they know that buses and all dont go at those hours , i should just say it and maybe they will keep me on early shifts and only on occasions have me work late late nights, I wouldnt mind every now and then working it, its 25 euro home.

I worked one weekend in a hotel and I never would again! I would take the restaurant! If you are any good at waiting then you'll make loadsa tips! A hotel dosent have a closing time...at least with a restaurant you'll know when your going home!
