Satellite reception issue in Clare

    Hello all.
I’ve a satellite reception problem on the west coast of Clare that I’m looking for advice about.
I have a fairly new Sony 37w5810 which has a built-in satellite receiver.
The TV is connected with a short run of good quality cable to a 60cm zone 2 perforated-type sky dish, which I bought new on Ebay; the quad lnb which came with the dish is labelled Visiblewave.
The problem I have is that I can only receive some of the FTA channels available.
The dish is pointing at the group of satellites around 28E and I’m picking up channels on each of these satellites, some with H polarity, some with V; I’m using this page as a guide to frequencies.

Many channels are coming in perfectly (C4, C4+1, More4, +1 C4HD, BBCHD, BBC1HD, ITVHD, ITV2, 4, to name just a few) while others are pixellated, intermittent or non-existent (BBC3,4 ITV3, 3+1, Channel 5 and many more)
So, for example, I can receive Channel 4 (Astra 2D 10714H 22000 5/6) perfectly, but there is heavy pixellation to no picture at all on Channel 5 which is on the same satellite, same polarity and an adjacent frequency (Astra 2D 10773 H 22000 5/6).
I’ve swapped the lnb but the problem remains the same; I’ve tried realigning the dish many times but that just seems to vary which of the more peripheral-reception channels I receive. I checked the voltages coming from the TV for the H/V polarity switch and they seem fine.
It seems to me to be either a dish-size issue or some problem with the built-in satellite receiver in the TV. I'll happily get a bigger dish if needed but I don't want to waste money on a new dish if it's not the problem...

    Any suggestions please?

Well I have a 60cm raven dish in Galway and it works fine, so I would have my doubts that your location is the source of the problem.

You seem to have already tried a few obvious things.

Have you adjusted the skew correctly when you were aligning the dish ?

To rule a few other possibilities out, how about trying that tv on someone else's dish or trying a sat box on your cable and sat dish set up.

I just borrowed a friend's sat receiver and I'll give that a shot and post how I get on with it.

I connected up a friend's sat receiver and got all the fta channels, so looks like a receiver problem.....
