Light-ish seatpost

I am looking for a light-ish seatpost, not going anything extreme like Schmolke or Ax Lightness and their crazy 250+++ euro seatposts.

The best weight (value) for money seatpost I 've found so far is the Ritchey Superlogic Ud Carbon, around 180gr at 31.6mm but still quite expensive at 170euro.

The other one I found was an FSA K-Light force second hand at 70euro, great price but at 230gr at 31.6mm.

Any recommendation for a lightweight seatpost that doesn't break the bank? I 'd much prefer a carbon if possible.

    Thanks!

I hate my Ritchey seatpost. The clamp is crap - you have to use incredible amounts of torque to stop the saddle rotating.

USE posts are light, I have a USE Sumo Ti.

My favourite one is a Fizik Cyrano. It looks lovely and has a little collar to "remember" your saddle height when you remove the seatpost.

I can sell you this if you are interested. 27.2 350

    I give you good price.

Very interesting thanks! I wasn't aware of USE. The Alien carbon is light and has a nice price as well, not too fond of the looks though. Interesting thing, Sumo is more expensive but it's more heavy too, is it because of the clamp design?

Thanks, that's nice as well, but I am looking for 31.6!

No, you are looking for a frame to go with my seat post.

Already have that sorry :pac: actually the 3T is a good one as well, http://www.wiggle.co.uk/3t-palladio-team-carbon-setback-seat-post/ ,178grams, better clamp than Ritchey and a few bobs less.. hmmm

Edit: Found a problem with it..
PALLADIO fits only saddles with industry-standard 7 mm dia round-section rails. Do not use this seatpost with saddles with oval rails, or rails in carbon-fiber composites

So it won't work with my Selle Italia.. feck.

USE are the best price/weight (It's what I have on Pinky) at about 135g, and if you have a normal saddle I'd say go for it, but if you've carbon braided or slightly ovalized it's a right headfuck -drove me mad trying to find a clamp that would work with my Arione

Have you seen some KCNC bits? Not carbon but black and 168g light. Have one on the MTB.

27.2mm though, not 31.8, the wider ones are over 200g

I presume that you're familiar with weight weenies. If not, link to their seatpost weight listing page. Pick out a few a do a google product search to get the cheapest prices I guess.

I have a Ritchey seatpost which came with my Canyon. I haven't had the problems which Lumen's reported having. Perhaps I've a different one or perhaps there's a problem with his rails or just that the tolerances on either/both for his specific seatpost and saddle aren't suited.

Mine is the alu version. I assume you have a fancy-pants carbon version. I'm using it with a Spesh Toupe saddle.

Thanks, yes I am familiar with WW but you can't really know the build quality without asking :D

What saddle do you have mounted on the Ritchey? I assume that it needs a different clamp for the 9mm rails of the carbon Selle Italia?

The seatpost which I have is the Ritchey one on this page. I've actually had three different saddles on it which all fitted fine without any need to change the clamp (I'm not the heaviest though - about 64kg). First was a fairly cheap San Marco saddle (can't rememer the exact one but can find out later) and the other two were this and now I've settled on this both of which have carbon rails (probably 9mm).

It's probably a totally different seatpost that one. The SUPERLOGIC CARBON seems to require this clamp to work with the SLR which adds an unneeded weight and ugliness :p

Yeah, I couldn't find it on the Ritchey site so I linked it from the Canyon site incase you were mistaken as to which one I had.

Control Tech iPost might be worth a look

I use the 2 bolt version ( Wepost ) and its rock solid & very light

Takes the SLR carbon rails, and CR have a special on the 250mm length version

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=19617

Other than that, if you want light affordable carbon, the 3T Dorico, but thats an inline seatpost, so depends on how much setback you're using at the mo.

I second the Controltech posts, have one, love it.

A correction on the 3T though... The Dorico has standard layback, the Doric (note the missing o) is actually a zero setpack post.

I have a Ritchey WCS carbon 2-bolt seatpost on one bike and it has worked well, so far, with a Fizik Aliante (Kium rails) and a Specialized Romin Expert (Kium rails). Mind you, that seatpost is a tight fit in the frame - might be something simple and stupid like dirt in the seat tube, or could be that the manufacturing tolerance of the seatpost was not all that it should have been.

@Astramonti, It might be worth doing a search for that particular Ritchey seatpost as I bought mine from bike24.com for 90euro a few months back. They don't seem to have them now so maybe they were being sold off as old stock in which case they might be available for a good price elsewhere.

Duly noted ... I'll be waiting in the long grass ;)

The standard layback is 13 or 25? I am not sure about how much layback I am going to need, I think I ll wait until I get the bike and fit my current seatpost and see if I need any more adjustments.

I have a Giant Defy 4 2010, upgraded the Rims to Mavic Aksiums. Made a big difference in the speed of the bike. The seatpost and seat were next on the list maybe??

Would changing both the Seat and Seatpost improve the Ride very much?

Do you find your current saddle uncomfortable? If not, just keep it.

Buy a nice pair of tyres for the bike if you haven't done so already. That'll improve ride quality more than a seatpost!

I ended buying this one: OMNI Racer ULTRA-LITE, should come around 140something grams. Obviously it's not the worlds lightest, but it's light enough for me. It has a weight limit, so it will keep me motivated not to get fatter :p

Im kinda fond of the American Classic alloy seatpost, at 220g its lighter and far stronger than most carbon seatposts:D
The clamp is slightly fiddly when first attaching the saddle, but I can testify its very secure once tightened.
Mine is lighter than 220g as I used a hacksaw to trim off the excess:)

If I recall correctly it cost me €60
