Unconventional Hen ideas?

    Hey there,

My aunt is getting married in July. She has 4 bridesmaids (2 sisters, 2 nieces - myself included). I'm trying to see about a hen day for her. We couldn't do a weekend as she runs a business and has 2 kids and her partner is away until the end of June on business so it'd have to be a day. Also, she doesn't drink. I was thinking maybe a Spa day and dinner but I'm just worried this might be very costly on everyone - does anyone know of anywhere that is good quality but affordable in Dublin or have any other suggestions for fun things to do for a day. It would be herself, her daughter, the 4 bridesmaids, a couple of girlfriends and the mother of the bride - so not a huge group and not your typical girls night out crowd :D

Thanks for your help in advance!

I had a hen party at home. Would you consider something like this?

Basically it was a party in my house, my sisters organised it. We had food, drink, music and games and it was really fun.

It had a recipe theme and everyone had to bring a recipe for the bride (Me!) to help her in her married life!

We did the Mr and Mrs Game, dressing me up in sheets and toilet roll game, a game with pegs, lots of laughing and chatting.

I know describing it there it sounds incredibly boring, but it really wasn't! Everyone had such fun and all it cost guests was their taxi home.

Now, my sister's did get in a shed load of drink and food which they point blank refused to let me pay for, so it did cost them about €200 in total.

You could have the party in the day, more a bridal shower than a hen. Make it a surprise. Kidnap the bride and blindfold her and bring her to the party and have all her friends waiting for her. You could do a BBQ and all the games and cheesy dancing?

My sisters did up a collage of old photos of me from when I was a baby too.

It might not be what you're in to, but just thought I'd suggest it. Best of luck!

Party at home. But seeing as she doesn't drink do it as a tea party.

Nice teas and coffees with lots of little cakes. Nice flowery tablecloths etc. You could get some nice hen party cupcakes delivered.

With some fun games as the other poster.

or you could go to a posh hotel, like the shelbourne for High Tea.

How about going horse riding together....lots of laughs at that or an assault coarse...or a meal out with everyone, play a few games at the table like getting each person to ask her a question about the groom?

    Good idea.

Where are you from op? Your local hotel should be able to do this for you for a good price. Sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, iced fancies etc etc

You do this at home as well though :)

I had afternoon tea in the Westin for my hen and it was amazing, each afternoon tea was €27 and was more than enough for 2 people!! The Atrium room there is so lovely, I don't drink either so it was important to me to have something more "sedate"...

I absolutely love the idea of the party in the house, provided everyone is willing to come up with good games and play along etc..

What about a picnic party? Do it in a park close to someones house and that way, if it doesn't work out (weather wise) you can do it on the floor!

Following my afternoon tea we did an accessory making class at the sip'n'stitch academy on Drury street, I had 15people so it wasn't too expensive/person... Something to think about perhaps..

If you play them nice classical music and maybe some soft jazz they lay bigger eggs

Causey Farm is definitely a brilliant hen day out. I went with a friend for hers and we had such a laugh and it's great for any of the girls that don't know each other that well, the ice was well and truly broken.
