    Hi OP,

There isn't a 'better' bass. Fender make both very good Jazz and Precision basses. It's all down to personal preference, ie what style of music your son will play.

Personally I prefer the Jazz, because I prefer the slimmer neck, and the sound of it cutting through the rest of the mix. As I've said before, what works for me may not work for him.

There are loads of threads on different forums about 'J vs P' listing the positive and negative aspects of each bass.

As lalee says, whether jazz or precision depends on personal taste and the music being played. The fact that he has tried out a few is good, as he probably now has a good idea of which one to opt for.

As for other places to buy one, if you wanted to go the second hand route, you could look on www.adverts.ie Good bargains to be had there from time to time. "Music Maker" on Exchequer St is worth checking out. Not very far from "Jimmy's" is "X Music" (see link below).

The man asked where he can go to try the basses, not which is better. Not living in dublin i can't really help.

I can understand how the title of the thread might lead people to think otherwise. :)
