Travel for work diet(any ideas)

    At the moment im on a fat burn part of my training, 3 weeks into a 12 week session. My diet is normally clean with one cheat a week and even after 3 weeks i can see results,

    I have to travel for work next week for a full week, does anyone have any ideas of clean eating on the road??

    I'll be packing my casein and whey, fish oils and multi...hotel has a decent(enough) gym

    I think hotel breakfast should be ok...porridge, eggs, some fruit etc
    after that its all corporate stuff thats just coffee and doughnuts for breaks and heavy lunchs and dinners with no real supplied alternatives for a "clean" diet, i know i could manage for a day but what will i do for a week with out draw attention to myself over food.....any ideas?

    I've found when eating out and making (what I consider to be) sensible choices from menus or asking for dishes to be adjusted to suit my chosen Primal/Paleo eating regime, that the waiting staff have occasionally discreetly asked if I suffer from Coeliac disease or an allergy of some sort.
    I've always explained that I don't and that I'm just trying to adhere to a particular eating plan, but might it be perceived to be in bad taste if I were to suggest you adapt a strategy based on something like this?

    I can see how trying to eat 'clean' in a 'hostile' environment for a week could indeed be tricky, particularly if you don't want to be drawing attention to yourself.
    Would it be particularly sinful to say something vague about 'allergies', in the reasonable assumption that the others present will be sympathetic and won't ask too many questions?

    I don't know; it smacks a bit of parking in the handicapped spaces or something like that and perhaps being disrespectful of the people out there with genuine problems in this area, so I'm just throwing the notion out as a possibility.

    Hi, I cam across this useful thread started by Khannie, there's some good recipes in it. The flap jacks are especially handy to bring if you are travelling.

    In that situation if the breakfast is a self-service buffet, I fill up on eggs so that I won't be hungry on the coffee breaks. Then I just try to choose the best option for lunch/dinner.

    Stuff I've found good for in a backpack / laptop bag while on customer site:
    nuts - these are quick to eat and you can get a lot of calories in discreetly
    raisins
    fruit
    bottled water
    jerky
    flapjacks (these will only last your first couple of days of course)

    Other than that as you say the breakfast buffet will be grand but travelling for work inevitably results in some decline in your diet and exercise regime (at least it did in mine). edit: If you're eating out, order yourself a side order of veg and get a decent helping of protein in (steak ftw! :D). That does help too.

    I have the same issue. Going to a diabetes training thing and I know the 90% of the fare is gonna be white bread based. The ironing..

    I'm planning on eating a big breakfast and see if I can't scrape together a makeshift small salad at lunch out of what's on offer. It's gonna be tough though, I'm under no illusions..

    i wonder can i eat eggs for breakfast while stealing some for lunch from the buffet......honestly..the temptation to just pig for the week is massive:o

    Drink lots of water / sparkling water which helps keep the full feeling

    Bring snacks with you / buy some fruit to eat before you go down to dinner (I often buy a prepacked salad to eat - but its easier for me as I travel for work and can stop and buy food). I find this stops me picking at the bread rolls and makes it easier to pick sensibly.

    Nuts as snacks, main meals should be ok, you should get meat and vegetables or salad. Dont be afraid to ask for things the way you want them or order off the menu, people dont mind and you can just shrug it off, picky eater or whatever.

    OP I have been in same situation.

    Try to have a good breakfast at the buffet or whatever and then grab some fruit you can take with you to the meetings.

    When I travel aborad though and there is the offer of local food to try i usually just binge...either that or get so high on caffeine that I couldnt get the food into my mouth anyway:)
