    Hi all,

Pls enlight me on WPP2. All I know about it is its a Work Placement Programme for people without any degree to have a chance on gaining work experience, it is an unpaid job, there will be no reimbursement of any cost at all.

Now, theres a WPP2 opportunity, 7 - 10 minutes away by car from where I live. Its something that I really want to do which is Childcare worker. The job is 25 hrs a week, lasts 9 months. Im really tempted to do it but I keep thinking of things, like fuel cost. Can I leave before 9 months, in case I get a paid job, will my dole be in trouble if I leave bfor 9 months (in case Im treated badly at work, u never know).

I also think, its like getting trained for free, but the difference is I wont get certificate in the end.

What to do? Pls fill in the blanks, in case Im misinformed. Thanks

Check out the FÁS website - they should have more details on the work placement programme. As far as I know you should be able to give notice if you find a paying job elsewhere during the placement.

Well done for going after something that you want - I wouldn't say that you will get nothing out of it - you will have a good reference and experience in the area that you want to go in to.

If you are looking for training in the area are there any BTEA courses in childcare? - Details of you eligibility for the BTEA would be on the department of scoial welfare site - essentially dole continues while you go to college.

    good luck!

I went for an interview yesterday with an Accountancy Practice
wpp2 advertised on fas website, They phoned me today and offered me the placement, Im was delighted, but now after reading so many negative posts about WPP, Im feeling a little disheartend.

I have just finished FETAC Level 5 Accounts/VAT/Payroll, so when I came accross the wpp I thought the hands on experience would be the best thing to do.

    Now Im not so sure.....

Someone who has done a course but has no practical experience is IMHO the only person who should be going for a WPP (1 or 2).

Take it, and make the most of it, if you cannot find a paying job, and can manage to afford the expense of working with no extra income.

But keep looking for a paying job all the time, and if you get one take it. Don't believe you have to stay there for 9 months - it's 9 months MAX, not ideally.

It is a good option, just be aware you have to be on social welfare 6months before your are entitled to BTEA

    hi there,

Ive been browsing and found this:

From September 2010, you will not get the Back to Education Allowance and student maintenance grant, if you:
    • Have been getting BTEA and are moving or progressing to a new course
    • Are a new BTEA applicant
Although you are not entitled to a maintenance grant, you must still submit a maintenance grant application form to get payment of the student service charge and tuition fees..............

............. To qualify for the Back to Education Allowance, you must be at least 21 years of age (24 years of age for a third-level postgraduate course). For exceptions to the age limit - see below.
If you wish to attend a second level course you must be getting one of the social welfare payments listed below for at least 3 months (78 days of unemployment*) immediately before you start the course.
If you wish to attend a third level course you must be getting one of the social welfare payments listed below for 9 months (234 days of unemployment*) immediately before you start the course.
Obviously I will be a new applicant, so can anyone explain to me what I will actually retain or get? Ive been on dole 3 months now. what are 2nd and 3rd level anyway? pardon me if I sound a bit silly, but I thought if I was going to do a course, itd be from 1st level? I am over 21 yo.

    thanks
