Thinking of going for a weekend break to Connamara with the hubby for our wedding anniversary, any ideas of where to stay, what to do while there etc?

Take a drive around Achill Island, some unreal views there.

Stayed recently at the Mulranny Park Hotel, Mulranny, Co. Mayo. Good hotel on iots own overlooking the sea. Easy access to Achill for a nice day trip. Food was very good, all you need is good weather.

Three responses to a question about Connemara: one suggesting an excursion to Mayo; the other two being solely about Mayo!

OP: give me an idea about what sort of thing you like. There is wonderful scenery in Connemara, and some good places to stay, whether it be in a country house hotel, a more modest one, or a B&B. Some quality dining opportunities, and some areas that are culinary deserts.

Station House in Clifden is a lovely spot to stay. Travel the coast road from Galway via Spidal, Costello, Ros Muc (can stop and see Pearces Cottage), Carna, Casel, Roundstone, Ballyconnely then into Clifden. Its a long journey but once you get as far as Costello and beyond you will never see a more beautiful place, plus you will be in the Gaeltacht until Casel.
Lovely hotels in Casel also, Casel House and the Zetland Hotel (The old stately home of Vice-roy Dundass, the Vice-roy of Zetland). Carna Bay Hotel boast some of the most brill staff, but is quite old.
Ballinahinch castle is a wonderful location if you have a few extra shillings to spare.
Hope you enjoy your stay in wonderful Conemara.
