Hi all, first off I'm not looking for any medical advice, I've read loads and am pretty well armed with the facts.

I've had some abnormal smear results and am being sent for a colposcopy and biopsy.

I'm just wondering has anyone ever been this far in screening and then been told that there is nothing to worry about?

I know I shouldn't worry but it pretty hard not to. I guess I'm asking for someone to tell me that there is a possibility it's nothing and the tests were wrong??

    Hi Shelli

I just wanted to reply and reassure you.

Firstly congratulations - I know a fair few people who put off getting smears out of fear.

Secondly, you wouldn't believe how common this is. 3 of my closest friends and myself have all had colposcopies in the past. We've all then gone on to have clear smears. ( I'm being so careful not to give medical advice here!) What I would say is that be grateful that we live somewhere where this is available to us. Remember this is a preventative procedure. Please try not to worry.

    Take Care and good luck

Hey I had an abnormal smear about 3 years ago and had to go for a to hospital fo a follow up coloposcopy was'nt sure what to expect was a bit sore afterwards because they froze the cells on my cervix so bring some painkillers just incase.
Had to go back again for a biopsy last summer which again was not the most pleasnt situation but only takes a few minutes and was so glad I got it done.Got the all clear a few weeks later and just need to go for a routine smear this summer. It doesnt bear thinking about what the outcome would be if I put off going.
All in all it's an necessary evil we have to go through but you will feel great that it's done and dusted. It's amazing how many women are referred to hospital because of abnormal smears and only a small % have something sinister.
Good luck with it and try to relax although I know thats not as easy as it sounds ;)

Op I've had a colposcopy and even a Lletz procedure and the result from the tissue sample removed during the latter was clear. The doctor actually told me that the abnormality that showed during the colposcopy(which he diagnosed as being between cn1 and cn2) was due to some kind of inflammation so don't be worrying. Once you have regular smears all will be well.

Colposcopy is treatment for cell changes that could potentially develop into cancer ie before any radical changes.

Good for you being proactive about your health.
Completely normal procedure and most ladies smears return to normal after treatment.

    Good luck.
