What average mileage should one get from a 01 fiesta zetec 1.25, largely town driving but some longish journeys..

According to this you should be getting about 40 MPG. But in reality it's probably just below that, especially if mostly urban driving.

    sorry miles per full tank?:)
According to manual there is 40 litre capacity. How many miles should it do on that, approx?

    400miles roughly at 40mpg

    40 MPG = 7 litres per 100 km = 8.88 miles per litre x 40 litres = 355.2 miles on full tank.

    I've had 3 1.25's over the years (mk4 and 5) and I always averaged 28-30mpg.

40mpg is a bit of a dream in my experience.

I'd definitely be expecting better than that. How hard did you drive them? I'm getting about 33mpg in a 1.8L and that's mostly town driving in Dublin.

I've always found the wee zetecs to be very thirsty. I wouldn't have been driving them hard all the time but now and again yes. I would have never gotten anywhere close to 40mpg.

    I've a 2.0 petrol now and getting nearly 35-40mpg.

    Hi,

I have a 96 Zetec Fiesta and I checked it recently using an online calculator in a previous boards thread and I was getting 37mpg.

I have calculated a lot of fills and top ups, it always works out at no less than 38 and usually 40mpg, sometimes 42, all for local driving, although I have gotten a few 46-48+mpg on long runs, I may go fast at times, but I dont accelerate hard (most of the time). I mostly never use the full tank when calculating. I top up, zero trip, drive till no less than quarter tank, refill, see how many litres and record the miles. This has worked for any quantity of fill and I always get around the 40 mark.

edit (42 locally was rare, more if I had a few trips driving up and down the motorway (locally).

I was gettin about 38mpg outa mine. I'd fill it up once I'd done about 320 miles since I'd last filled it. Tank was usually halfway between the red and the quarter.
I'd say 350 on a tank is doable, but I never took the chance.

    so a 1.25 fiesta is thirstier than a 1.8?

These mpg threads are a waste of time, my definition of town driving is crawling along at less then 10mph for half an hour and covering about two miles, lots of folk consider driving around suburbia at near 30mph as town driving. Getting anywhere near 33mpg in a 1.8L that's mostly town driving in Dublin I find hard to fathom.

14 litres per 100 miles and that's miles not km (don't know why Mazda do it that way), but although that's mostly in Dublin, it also includes some motorway driving and it's rarely in peak traffic and so, not less than 10mph for half an hour, just more stopping and starting at traffic lights.

I'd never base it on what the tank can hold as some of that is unuseable (a small amount) and I dont think you want to be going as near to empty as you can, the method i described works for calculating fuel consumption without having to empty a tank.
I might get 310,315 when the warning light comes on, but if i pushed it there is practically almost a gallon left, I dont really want dredge anything up thats at the bottom of the tank, the filter prob will stop it but it will be in the pump at that stage already.

Its about 36 litres to fill after the light comes on for me, so 36 litres/4.54 litre per gallon = 7.93 gallons 310-315 miles /7.93 is 39.7 mpg
    which is 4.54 litres : 63.5km
    4.54/63.5*100= 7.15lts per 100km

When I say 350 miles or whatever out of a full tank, I don't mean to actually do that but just that that's the limit.

I agree with your method of checking your fuel economy. Whenever I want to check the accuracy of my on board L/100 miles calculator, I just reset the tip computer when I fill the tank, let it count until I refill the tank and check how many litres it takes to fill. Now you know exactly how many miles you've got out of X amount of litres.
