I've been listening to him recently and I've noticed that he comes out with some serious factual errors. I don't know if he's lying or just not knowledgeable of the facts but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he just makes some serious mistakes.

For example I just listened to a debate with himself against Daniel Dennett where he said "The South Korean continent is 50% Christian" (paraphrasing, not literally word for word). Well ignoring the fact that South Korea isn't a continent, South Korea is most certainly not 50% Christian. South Korean is 47% 'no-religion' and at most 30% Christian, 23% Buddhist and the remainder are various others.

At the "Freedom Fest 2008" debate with Hitchens he claimed that no serious philosopher denies the existence of Socrates which is also untrue. Socrates' existence has been strongly debated and much of Plato's writings about him have been strongly thought of to be Plato simply using his name for his arguments.

I have noticed others before but can't remember them at the moment.

I know he's well respected but seriously some of the simple errors he comes out with are astounding. What are peoples opinions of him here ?

I don't know very much about him. I remember seeing him either on EWTN or Youtube. I thought he was a good speaker. I was disappointed to hear that such a seemingly intelligent man had left the Catholic Church and now considers himself an Evangelical Protestant!

As regards your post, we all make mistakes. And besides, 30% is nearly 50% - maybe he is even using more accurate or up to date figures?

As regards Socrates, maybe Dinesh doesn't consider the advocates of his non-existence as serious philosophers.

Are you been serious ? 30% is 'nearly' 50% ? Are you a banker ?

20% is not a small error.

    No he is not.

Ever hear of the Socratic problem ?

There's a general consensus that Socrates did exist but it's by no means unanimous, there's also huge debate regarding what we know about Socrates. Plato's later writings about Socrates for example are widely accepted to be Plato's own writings using Socrates' name.
