    Hi,
I am thinking of social care courses along with other options at the moment. I will have a honours degree in business next year. What are my options of getting into social care and perhaps going onto be a social worker? Thanks:)

It's my understanding that Social Workers require a primary degree in Social Work , in otherwords a few courses here and there may not be enough.
It's worth bearing in mind that such positions are generally with the HSE which is subject to hiring moratorium / restrictions , there may not be many opportunities for the next few years.

Thanks. I am aware that you need a four year full time degree to become a Social Worker. I was wondering if anyone had any advice of getting into social care and then perhaps in the future I might look into becoming a Social Worker.Sorry if my last post was not clear.Thanks.

    Hi Shinesun,

You can do Fetac accreditated Social Care Courses through most of the VEC's and some can be done as night classes, they are only at Level 5 or Level 6 thou. If you want to do a course that is HETAC accreditated you will need to do this through the one of the IT's. As a lot of people graduate with level 7 or level 8 degrees in Social Care this might be a better option. I think some of the IT's do this course part time but you would need to confirm that with individual IT's. If you want to do a Social Work course from a Social Care qualification you will need a level 8 degree in Social Care and you can then do a 2 year Post Grad in Social Work through UCD, Trinity, UCC or NUIG

    Hope this helps

NUIG does a social care part-time course, times are great if you;re working full-time (study fees are unreal though...;-()
Hubby is doing it at the moment, and seems to be happy with it!
