Do I HAVE TO WORK WEEKENDS FREE??

    Hi All,

    I work in sales, and my company expects me to do shows over the summer on Sundays or Saturday .It says in my contract i may have to work occasionally at weekends. Am i intital to pay/time off in lew? Or do i just have to work my normal week (39 hours) and then do the shows free because my contract says so?

    Please help

    If your contract says that you have to do weekends for free and you agreed to it, and signed it, then you're pretty much stuck unless you can renegotiate your contract.

    No it dosnt say i have to work free, it just says i may have to work on weekends occasionally?

    Well then the implication is that you are paid the normal hourly rate. If you are worried or thinking of disputing this with your employer then see a solicitor.

    Im on Salary so would i be intital to time off?

    time off in lieu wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation, are there any company policy documents around this?

    might be better off moving thread to work & jobs

    OP - you'd probably be giving time in lieu or perhaps after working the weekend you be off 2 days during the week.

    Thats true, but your employer cannot make you work for more than the working time act stipulates - 48 hours per week. Any hours over this and you are entitled to at least the time over 48 hours off in lieu.

    Basically if its in your contract and within the law, they can ask you, but it shouldn't be a sackable offence if you just can't do it.
