hi guys... heading to Fuerteventura in 2weeks with my partner and two girls aged 9 and 10 and its our first time there. We are staying in Caleta de Fuste in the Barcelo Castillo beach resort and was hoping to get some recommendations of places to go e.g shows, nightlife (kids orientated of course;)) places to eat out at night etc. We also need to arrange a taxi transfer from the airport so if anyone has any experiences i would be very grateful of any advice/recommendations

    Thanks :)

I wouldn't worry about arranging a taxi transfer, where you are staying is quite close to the airport, there have always been plenty outside the terminal when I've arrived.
I would recommend taking the long coastal walk/promenade towards Nuevo Horizonte and bringing a bag of nuts, you will come across the barbary squirrels which are endearing and very friendly creatures. Dried fruits and nuts are more expensive than at home, so maybe bring them with you.

go to the scuba diving school - right next to your hotel (they actually use the pool to train with newbies). the lads are great (miguel and andy spent a lot of time with my son doing PADI license), good buzz altogether.

here are the webcams (usually should be working):

    apart from that:

    - tony roma's ribs (unforgettable)
    - mini golf (2e pp, per session)
    - the zoo is cool, need a transport though
    - gambrinus restaurant (lovely food and decent service)

despite all of the above i'm not gonna go there 5th time ;)
but you should have a good time, enjoy.

i stayed in http://www.broncemar-beach.com/ and have never had any issue there. if you decide to go there, ask for dani in the old irish tawern dowstairs, he's a good man and may show you a real night life there if interested ;) happend to me drink 2 nights with him without spending a single cent!

We stayed in the ,Caleta de Fuste Barcelo Castillo area last year although we stayed in a villa which was opposite a golf course . Easy enough to get a taxi from outside the airport terminal which cost about 10 euros for a 5 minutre journey .

Didn't see a lot for kids there ,we didn't have any with us and there didn't seem to be much on view although you can book a day trips at the local tourist office to ......

    the Zoo ( recommended )
Coach trips to a market on other side of Fuerteventura .

The Marina were the kids and adults can float about with the seals

We drank a lot at the Scottish bar , with 2 for the price of one offers on all drinks between 9 -10 pm .

The Villa we stayed in was superb and overall as holidays go , Would give it a 6 out of 10 .

Corralejo is about 80% Irish/British and is the same as most resorts in the Canaries/Spain/Portugal. I've stayed there twice and it's OK. Costa Caleta is a newer resort which would have a higher % of Irish/British, I've never been there so can't comment.

I'm going back to Fuerty in 6 weeks and am going south to Jandia. It's about 80% German/Dutch but the beaches are bigger and nicer and I preferred it.

The main advice I'd give anyone going to Fuerty is to hire a car. The town beach in Corralejo isn't great and there are so many lovely places only a few mins away by car that it's really worth doing. A Taxi from the airport to Corralejo is about 45/50 each way and you will hire a small car for a week for 130 ish so it makes sense.

Re eating out, we ate down near the harbour in Corralejo most nights as we eat mostly fish. There is a lovely Indian half way up the strip, cannot remember the name of it but it's beside a well known pub called the Orange Project. There are more bars than you could shake a stick at, everyone's taste is different so have a look around to see what suits you best. Enjoy your holiday.

thanks b&w we actually only decided to go the other day and as i said i wanted to do it myself i.e flights accom etc. and so far its well worth it i worked it out at a fraction of the cost. its only for a few days just a break for myself and her indoors. i just hadnt really heard a lot about fuerteventura and didnt want to book somewhere in the middle of nowhere or a retirement holiday so to speak. did that before and wasnt too happy, also booked a holiday before and it was in the middle of a mainly british resort and some of them werent too accomodating if you know what i mean, that was the reason i was asking where do the irish tend to go....

I hope you have a great time Celtictiger32. Personally I avoid Irish bars when abroad unless there's a rugby game on, they tend to be the most expensive bars around. I had a few beers around a lot of the bars in Corralejo, most are British run and I felt really welcome and well looked after in every one of them. The crowd in Fuerty tends to be families or older couples compared to Gran Canaria or Tenerife so maybe thats something to do with it. I find Fuerty very like Lanzarote but with much bigger and better beaches. Then again I'm 49 so maybe that's just my age !

I'm a big fan of German beer like Erdinger or Krombacher so am looking forward to heading south.

BTW if you do hire a car make sure to visit El Cotillo. It's a small fishing village about 20 mins drive from Corralejo that they haven't managed to ruin yet. If you like Tapas, try the Casa Rustica there.

    Enjoy your break.
