Ahh... You'd pay, what, €1,500 for a new one with a (generic) grip?

I think I'd just save the extra €300. Though that said, €300 is the price of a flash gun or entry level lens or other accessory, so it's really up to yourself.

When I eventually buy a 7D, it'll be new, just for peace of mind, and I wouldn't plan on ever getting rid of it until it died. So it's all down to personal preference.

Did I give details before on where I got a new one for €1200 - minus the grip?
Suppose it depends on how much the grip is worth

You didn't, but I'd love to know where!

Was it Kerso? He used to come in at approx. 1200, which was great, but I contacted him last week and he had none, plus prices for the 7D in general seem to have jumped a bit.

Could you post up where you managed to pick up a 1,200 7D, and how long ago it was?

There is low stock on a lot of gear with the aftermath of the earthquake in Japan and prices have jumped accordingly.

Is there any word on when production in Japan will be back on track (so prices can fall in line accordingly).

I've heard Japan isn't doing too bad these days? (I haven't really been keeping up to date with the news though, to be completely honest).

There is 2nd hand and then there is 2nd hand

What is really important is who was the first hand

do you know them- can you trust them?

I buy all my camera gear on ebay and all the time from English sellers only.

I spend a good deal of time and effort profiling each seller- by conversation via email and any other method (google search etc)

I recently bought an 80-400m Nikon lens from an ebay seller- whom through email contact I discovered was a top professional photographer in
the UK(which ~I then verified though his website address)

When the lens arrived- I would genuinely say that it had never been used.
I paid 50% of Irish retail price for that lens.

There are real bargains out there in 2nd hand gear -but there are also huge risks.
~You really have no comeback if the item is substandard- so you have to use all your time in verifying the creditials of the seller.

Using common sense and an totally professional approach to 2nd hand purchases can save you loads of euros
