Dole question

    Hi, need some advice please.

I'll be turning 18 on the 7th of July.
I will be repeating 5th year this September (I slacked off)

I've been doing a little work experience with my uncle is his pub, with him giving me a little cash off the book. He can't afford to hire me.

I've been constantly sending CV's everywhere! I missed a interview with Hollister in Dundrum because I was working. :'(
It's nearly summer, and just like this time last year. I haven't got anything and it really has me down.
My mother tries her best but she's having financial trouble herself.

Can I get the dole when I turn 18, or is there any FAS courses or anything that pays during the summer?
I can't do it full time obviously because I'm back in school.

No, students can't sign on or anything like that during the summer months if they intend on continuing their education the following year. They're considered to be full-time students over the summer.

Your only real option is a crappy job in a supermarket or wherever. Chin up, something will come along :)
The next time you have an interview, give it more priority than working in your uncle's pub. If he's not going to take you on, then interviews are more important :)

That's really made my day now.
I want a crappy job in a supermarket, I'd do anything.

I was working over-night with my uncle and I didn't get to check my emails, I didn't know about the interview.

if you had stamps paid you could claim dole during the summer between college terms.

Hey, how can you claim dole if you're still in college? any chance you'd have any info on that or know where I could find out?

As seamus said no student can sign on ! You are a full time student if you are in college it doesn't matter about your " stamps "

Op, you'll just have to go door to door (especially pubs) asking to speak to managers and try to charm them into giving you a job. hardworking, worked in a pub, used to cleaning, used to a busy environment, like dealing with people, etc etc

I know you're over 18 but you're still in secondary school and no more entitled to the dole than anyone else in your class.
