Bomb hoaxes today

There were some bomb hoaxes today in Dundalk, Drogheda and Monaghan due to the Queen's visit. What's the point of them? It makes the dissident republicans out to be a bunch of 12 year old boys who don't have the balls to actually follow through with their threats. Not that I want them to, just to be clear. And what would it achieve having a bomb in southern towns where the majority of people would be Irish??
They are kind of embarrassing themselves really.

    Any thoughts?

The hoaxes are bad enough but the viable devices have all been targeting civilians so far. Do they even know who their targets are?

I don't know if people can appreciate the implications of this.

We struggled for years to shake off the tag that Ireland was at war with itself and England.

People were afraid to come in their droves because they feared for their safety.

Now at a time when we're struggling to get back on our feet again this crap is thrown back in our faces again.

I spoke to friends in Israel and Nth Carolina (USA) and the Maynooth bomb has made the media in both countries.

And trust me when I say it, you guys aren't even seeing the tip of the iceberg!.

Basically anyone on this island who isnt:

    a) a local at their pub
    b) part of their family

Since everyone else isnt bombing everything in sight they must be "agents of de Brits" and so fair game.

I think at the end of the day they are afraid to hit the queen. Too much sh1t coming down the road for them if they did that.

I just cant find the logic of the bomb hoax in Monaghan.

They are protesting a bomb that went off in the middle of my town 37 years ago by saying they have planted a bomb? WTF??

Its really upsetting that the place they say the bomb was (the courthouse) is also the site of the monument to those who died in 1974.

    Morans. Really made me angry.

    Not in my name.

    End of story.

Truly brilliant idea by the dissidents yet again, make a couple of bomb hoaxs in towns she's not even going to visit. Might as well change their name to Irish Republican Brain Trust.

I hope when they are making these bombs it blows up in their face and kills them, what a bunch of retards, have they ever looked at each other and realised how wrong they are

It would mean they would have to have even a modicum of brains to do that, and I suspect they don't have even that much.

....Correction - I'm positive the dumb fcuks don't even have that much!

From what we've seen today its only the stupid ones that are pissed off.
Most people don't care on way or the other.

Some people care because it delays them getting to work, getting their child to a hospital or getting home in time to feed the rest of the family.

For the record: I'm NOT pissed off at the Queens visit - ONLY at the hoax fcuks that are causing further delays with the brainless, futile hoaxes.

The point of the bomb scares and threats are merely for disruption to the event, a means of showing disapproval. They'll get media coverage which in itself sends out a message , the point (I'd imagine) isn't the hurt people but rather the avoid the scenario of the queen of england visiting Ireland without incident and showing the Irish public as happy to welcome her etc etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,620 ✭✭✭Downlinz

For example if you look on CNN's home page their headline for the story is "Protests greet queen's visit"

So the bomb hoaxes and protests are shaping how this visit is portrayed to the masses. Its a fairly legitimate and effective form of disruption.

    Legitimate, definitely not.

If they were all hoaxes then you might have an argument, however the fact that some were viewed as / treated as viable devices indicates otherwise.
The army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion in Fairview Park in Dublin this morning following a security alert.
The army bomb disposal unit has been informed of a suspicious device in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

Seems there were another 2 bomb scares in Monaghan this evening, in the shopping centre and at the site of the Monaghan bombing of 1974.

That really makes a mockery of the memories of those who died then more than a visit from an elderly lady.

Let's face it dissident republicans are morons through and through. They're wannabe thugs with no respect for the rule of law, no respect for democracy, no respect for the will of the people they purport to represent.

    They're idiots. Complete f*cking idiots.

    Every single one of them.

    Without exception.

They don't speak for me. They don't speak for Ireland. They only speak for their bottom-feeding selves and their idiotic moronic friends.

If you're all so ballsy and all so right in your views then why wear balaclavas when you make your little speeches?

    Oh that's right, it's because you're cowards.

Shooting innocent people. Blowing up women and children? You f*cking turds. Go f*ck yourselves. All of you.

Oh and if you support them, have ever worn a 'Sniper At Work' t-shirt or have ever chanted 'Oh-Ah Up the 'Ra' then f*ck you too.

Apparently a small device actually did go off earlier in dublin, no reports of any injuries, only damage caused was a small crater in the ground.

A spokesperson for the Gardai said 'they are looking into it!'

There was a scare at UCC in Cork around 5am this morning but it has proven to be a false alarm. I heard some exams were cancelled but have no confirmation on this.

agree with every word that you have said.

people who do this are obviously have there heads stuck so far up their own arses that they need a glass stomach to see out!

we are all for peaceful protest but when you see the scenes that happen on dorset st when the queen was at the garden of remembrance you know that they are people who stuck in the dark ages.

you do not speak for me with your actions.

    and you never will.

I'm not quite sure what to write in this post. Been thinking about the pipe bomb (?) left on that bus going from Mayo to Dublin and found in Maynooth (hope I got all that right). How many people were on that bus, could have been friends or family of any of us here and some individual puts a bomb on board. Pretty much all of the punishments I've thought of through the day would honestly be too good for that individual.

The queens visit is a good thing for Ireland. God knows, we need good things at the moment. Yet a few selfish individuals want to embarrass, maim or kill. For what?

Piss off back to the 70's.

How likely is it that the people causing the bomb hoaxes are just half-witted individuals operating of their own accord rather than being part of one of the bigger organisations?
