    Hi,
    We have a Volvo S40 which we use for long family trips where we need the space but want to get an ecomonical car to replace our 02 Saab 2 litre.

    * Budget is €10k about
    * Will be used to work and back 5 days a week, about 12 mile trip in congested traffic (from Claregalway into the UCHG hospital- so not crawling traffic all the time but a lot of stop-start.
    * weekends into town at the weekend (with 2 adults, 1 baby & 1 4 year old)
    * Ideally the lowest (or second lowest) tax bracket
    * high mpg
    * nice looking car (e.g. not a Panda)
    * should fit a buggy in the boot

    A fair few people have said steer clear of Fiat and Peugeot- would people agree?
    As the milage won't be very high, mainly short trips is it still worth getting a diesel?
    We were thinking a small-ish car (Polo, Fabia etc) but if the mpg isn't effected I've nothing against a larger car

    cheers,
    Pa.
