You have 60 seconds to get out of your house before the gaurds arrive

Here's a tip: put your hard drives in the microwave for 30 seconds...

Far as I know they don't have to have any reg numbers, and they can put any number they want on if they want.

Might be something to do with it also having a UK Tax Disc!!

I'd guess they put on temporary plates to cover the ownership/identity etc. for the duration of any visit.

I'd expect the RR to be brought in from the UK for her, and just with whacked on ROI plates. I don't see any of our guys (Gardai, army etc.) holding on to armoured RRs (although I could be wrong :)).

+1, I'd imagine that it's a UK car and Gardai have just whacked on ROI plates.

The BMW's could be in the same boat?

They've blanked out the reg plates because they don't want us to find out that there's finance outstanding on them - about 100 billion

The Reg on the armoured Range Rover is 11-D-14683 with UK Tax disc!!!:o

I think there would be an interest for a near new armoured Range Rover, I sure Seán FitzPatrick would like to have it........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,684 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Strange that they would bother changing plates like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

i heard BMW Ireland supplied all the BMW's as a goodwill gesture and may possibly not even be registered yet

also heard the Range Rover was a Brittish Embassy car.

The beemer in front of the Range Rover was a left hand drive, I wonder is there anything to this, security or what not?

As it's an import she will be able to use the last 4 digits of the chassis number when taxing it for the first time, think she has 30 days to get it in order, wonder what list of extras did she have to declare at the VRT inspection ;)

I would imagine the plates are fake and have been changed for political reasons.

She is most likely being driven around and protected closely by Mi5/6 and the Gardaí and politicians thought it would be better to make them appear to be Irish Gardaí so that people would have less reason to raise objections.

    Just a thought

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 904 ✭✭✭yourpics

5000 gardai in Dublin and they can't spot the fake regs on the cars.

Next week the same gardai will be back in their normal areas. Will they turn a blind eye to locals with fake regs? Doubt it!

I wouldn't envy the overzealous Garda who decided to pull Her Majesty over for having invalid licence plates... he/she may find their career considerably shortened :p

Based on the reg number of the RR (11D14xxx) I'd imagine it would have been registered around a month or more ago to get that number.

But it's clearly not registered, based on the tax disc, and the fact that it's more than likely armoured. Don't think AGS have too many of those!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,141 ✭✭✭Yakuza

When Clinton was here in 1995, his presidential limo had Irish plates stuck on it, but it was a temporary one (one of the ZZ style I think). Obama's will probably have the same treatment.

+1. It's visibly armoured, and heavily at that. I think I saw a UK tax disc too.

The Range Rover is actually bomb proof whereas the 7 series BMWs are just bullet proof and armour plated, all just in town for the Queens visit and will be back on the ferry at the weekend.

she's just trying to pull the same trick she gets away with it at home. Apparantly she don't even bother with the plates there.

And she's already had a birthday this year with another one coming up, so she probabaly lied on the forms too

You did see a UK tax disc.

I'd imagine that the RR in particular is built to a very high standard, as requested by MI5/MI6/Scotland Yard/Whoever. As it's transporting a very high profile head of state, I'd think it's a prime target for a terrorist at the minute.

No doubt it is bombproof, and probably even comes with it's own O2 supply in the event of a gas attack.

I vaguely remember reading about these somewhere before, here's a few links.

Looks like Landrover even do this in-house (Disco is also available armoured):
    http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/armoured-vehicles/range-rover-armoured/

Here's one for sale (some other great machines here too!):
    http://army-uk.info/equip.php?ID=203

    From Wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_Rover
    Armoured Range Rover (2007—)
It was a version of Range Rover Vogue developed by Land Rover Special Vehicles as an integral part of the new Range Rover Vogue programme. Development work has been carried out by Land Rover Special Vehicles working closely with one of the world's leading armouring specialist companies, Armour Holdings Group, that includes O'Gara Hess and Labbe. Testing of the vehicle's armouring was done by QinetiQ.
The vehicle was certified for European B6 ballistic protection standard. Other changes include Side blast and under floor grenade protection, independent ballistic and blast certification, uprated suspension, handling and braking system, wheels fitted with run-flat tire system, fuel cut off over-ride. Optional security features include Tinted windows, Anti-tamper exhaust and Intercom.[16]
Engine choices include 4.4L V8. In 2010 model year, a 5.0L V8 engine was used.

It's a very serious piece of kit by the looks of things, I can understand why it's required though.

Personally, I'd prefer a Merc G55, but that's just me.....

It does look like the front is a little too low, but it could be under braking either.

UK disc and front LED's are clear to see here too (Pic lifted from the Military forum)

Actually, if you look at the glass, there is roughly a 2/3 inch thick black band running around the outside of each window. I presume this hints at fairly armoured glass.

    Not strange,

If there was a dozen cars with Irish reg and one with a UK reg where do you think the troublemakers would head for ?

In fairness, one ROI reg RR in the middle of 5 ROI reg BMW 750i's kinda gives the game away....

IIRC the PSNI landrovers had up to one tonne of armour

IIRC the PSNI landrovers had up to one tonne of armour

I know this is based on a Disco, but according to RR UK, the GVW of a Discovery 4 is 3240kg.
    http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/discovery-4/explore/gs/

According to caruan.com, an armoured Disco weighs 4050kg.
    http://www.caruan.com/land-rover/2011-land-rover-discovery-4-armoured.htm

Certainly not far off a tonne.

It was mentioned on one of the news reports that the Range Rover came from the PSNI, especially for the visit.
