Hi, I hope to cycle this route tomorrow for work. Does anyone know a route or a site with suggested routes for such destinations.
    All suggestions appreciated

i cycle to carton house sometimes from my house. i go through town on the N11, head past Phoenix park going west, Chapelizod Road i think. you can stay on this road and peeter onto the N4 with a bit of going over bridges etc... the M1/M50 (i dunno)
    or if you google it,
and this is the way i ended up coming home last week. you can go by the Anglers Rest pub, (along a semi-narrow road) and then through St.Catherines park to Leixlip. im terrible at giving good directions but go for it. good luck with the commute. it took me 2hrs20 mins from Greystones. at 7 in morning last friday.

Google Maps is your best option.

Just be aware that a number of the roads on what would generally be obvious routes from the city out to Maynooth may well be (actually are, depending on the time you're looking at) affected by road closures tomorrow.

There are *so* many options available to you :)

Option 1: The water route, along the canal and along the Liffey:

The problems with this is that there is that there is a about 25 speed bumps between the top of Knockmaroon hill (in Chapelizod) and Lucan, the second problem is Knockmaroon hill which is a steep short hill on a narrow road which gets a lot of traffic, so you are going up a steep hill at slow speed with fast traffic which has no room:

To avoid the hectic nature of Knockmaroon hill, you can go through the Phoenix Park (I am not sure if this is possible tomorrow with the traffic restrictions - you are a bike so you can use pedestrian entrances which may be available):

Option 2: The car route - into town on the N11, down the canal, out the N4 but turn off for Leixlip and along the old N4:

The issues with this are that the N4 along the Chapelizod bypass is dual carriageway and you will be in the buslane and you have to pass the M50 on the N4 (this is a very car-centric road so not too nice).

Option 3: The scenic route 1 - onto the grand canal, out along the new path to Adamstown, head towards Lucan and then into Leixlip and out to Maynooth

Option 4: The scenic route 2 - onto the Royal canal (appropriate for the day that is in it), and cyclo-cross it out to Maynooth on the tow-path.
