After the success of their first two shows, Junctions are delighted to announce the details of their next event be held on June 16th in the Pavilion Cork City. The stellar line-up includes the stunning American vocalist Aoife O’Donovan (Crooked Still), legendary guitarist Arty McGlynn along with fiddle maestro Cathal Hayden (Four Men & A Dog), Cork’s own Mick Daly, former Waterboy and Lúnasa bassist Trevor Hutchinson, and the incomparable genre-defying dancing of Nic Gareiss, along with hosts Karan Casey and Buille.

    AOIFE O’DONOVAN
Singer Aoife O'Donovan has been dubbed "Americana's newest darling" by USA today and “Voice of the new tradition” by Performer Magazine. She is best known as lead singer of alt-bluegrass sensations Crooked Still, but is also causing quite a stir as a songwriter – her Lay My Burden Down was recently covered by Alison Krauss on her most recent release Paper Airplane. The album debuted at #3 on Billboard Top 200 and #1 in the Bluegrass and Country charts! It also features on the soundtrack to the new Robert Duvall/Bill Murray film Get Low. Although Aoife grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, her father is a native of Clonakilty, West Cork, and she spent all of her summers in Ireland immersed in traditional Irish music and dance. In high school, Aoife became interested in the American folk tradition through artists such as Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, and began playing guitar and singing traditional songs. In 2001 she co-founded the groundbreaking Crooked Still, which went on to record 4 studio albums and a live album.

    ARTY MCGLYNN
Arty McGlynn is without doubt one of the most influential Irish musicians of the last 40 years. His career began during the showband craze, and has seen him perform with everyone from Van Morrison to Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Frances Black and Liam O’Flynn. He was born in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, to a family steeped in traditional music and when he was eleven his mother bought him his first guitar. Despite this traditional music background his first influences were Wes Montgomery, Thelonius Monk and other giants of the jazz scene. By the time he was fifteen he was playing professionally and touring throughout Ireland! He released the seminal McGlynn’s Fancy in 1979 and has featured on countless other classic albums including Matt Molloy’s Stony Steps, Four Men & a Dog’s Barking Mad and several with West Cork fiddle player Nollaig Casey.

    CATHAL HAYDEN
Cathal Hayden was born in the village of the Rock, just outside Pomeroy, in Co. Tyrone, an area immersed in traditional music. His father played the banjo and fiddle, and his mother was a pianist, while both grandfathers were fiddle players. His first instrument was the tenor banjo on which he won All-Ireland Fleadh titles at all age levels. He then turned to the fiddle and within a year won the All-Ireland senior title on that also! He recorded his first solo album Handed Down in 1980, with his close friend and mentor, Arty McGlynn accompanying him on guitar. The second solo offering didn’t appear until 1999 but in the meantime he had joined Arcady alongside Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonagh and Sharon Shannon before forming his own group Four Men & A Dog. Their first album Barking Mad won critical acclaim from all circles and became one of the most successful Irish Traditional albums ever. It also went on to win the Folks Roots award for "Best Album" in 1991, becoming the first Irish band to pick up this accolade.

    MICK DALY
Mick Daly is a true legend of the Cork and Irish music scene having played for over 40 years with the iconic Lee Valley String Band. During that time he has also been a member of Arcady, Any Old Time, The Mary Black Band, Scullion, and was part of the original Four Men & A Dog line-up. He is equally at home playing traditional Irish music as bluegrass and American Old Time music whether on 5 string banjo or guitar and is also an exceptional singer and interpreter of traditional song.

    NIC GAREISS
Described by the Irish Times as “The human epitome of the unbearable lightness of being”, Michigan born dancer Nic Gareiss has performed as featured soloist with such luminaries as The Chieftains, Solas, Darol Anger, Dervish and Martin Hayes. His work re-imagines movement as a musical activity, morphing dance into a medium that appeals to both the eyes and the ears. Nic draws from many percussive dance traditions to weave together a technique in service of his love of improvisation, traditional footwork vocabulary and musical collaboration. Nic holds degrees in anthropology and music from Central Michigan University and is pursuing post-graduate work in ethnochoreology at the University of Limerick.

    TREVOR HUTCHINSON
Trevor Hutchinson, from Cookstown, County Tyrone, has been a member of the hugely successful Lúnasa since 1997 during which time they have released 7 critically acclaimed albums as well as a ‘Best of’ compilation. They continue to tour 12 months of the year to every corner of the globe. Pre-Lúnasa he played bass with the Waterboys and featured on the classic albums Fisherman’s Blues and Room to Roam, before going on to perform and record three albums with the Sharon Shannon Band. A much-in-demand and extremely versatile musician, Trevor also regularly performs with American blues legend Eric Bibb.
