I recently purchased 100 mobile phone covers on ebay, cost me €125 delivered.
Today i got a phonecall from DHL saying customs have my package & they need a receipt/paypal invoice to release it.Im presuming this is for duties owed?
How much will i owe on it?i cant see a rate on the customs website!
    Thanks!

Search here to get the commodity code -

    http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric/taric_consultation.jsp?Lang=en&Area=HK&Expand=true&SimDate=20110516

The items might be 0% rated for duty so then you will just have to pay VAT @ 21%, if they aren't you pay 125 euro x duty rate, added together and then pay 21% on that figure.

You are only entitled to import EUR22 worth of goods without it attracting VAT and/or Duty.

Think duty only kicks in after €150 so you'll be paying vat + a 1% surcharge on amount to be collected.

Not true, you pay Duty on the full amount (if the goods aren't 0% rated that is)

What catagory does a silicone mobile phone case fall under??
    Plastics?

Really should have done dome research before buying from outside the EU...

You sure? I have never paid Duty on any parcels worth less than €150 just vat at 21%. Soon as its over €150 duty is applied.

Also just check my invoices and its a 2% processing fee but thats just 2% of the amount collected.

From my experience you should be asked for €26.78

hey I import for a living and I think the duty is 6.5% so you should expect to pay less than €10 on this...

You should call the Revenue Classification Section in Nenagh 067 44240/44239 they will clarify the duty code for you and tell you what % of duty you need to pay, simple!

    Hello Barry,

I don't think you would be liable to pay any duty on this. It may just be VAT. Any transaction less than € 150 is exempt from duty. Anything over € 22.00 is liable to VAT.

    Have a look at the following thread ;
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055862554

That has a lot of detail on Duty and VAT for parcel imports.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers,

    Hello Vicwatson

The exemption of Euro 22.00 only applies to VAT. Duty is exempt upto € 150.00.

    Refer to the thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055862554

    Hello DenzelWishbone,

I think you are correct about the % import duty, but as advised any value under € 150.00 does not attract any duty.

Good advise about the tariff classification unit in Nenagh. They are usually very helpfull

    Cheers,
