Vodafone Home Broadband

    Hi All,

    Just been on to Vodafone trying to get a replacment line spliiter to connect to my broadband modem. A splitter is the adapter that filters the broadband signal from the phone signal. Mine is faulty.

    The original splitter was supplied by BT when the broadband was installed. The thing is Vodafone are trying to charge €4 for the splitter, should vodafone not have a duty of care to supply this free of charge?

    You usually only get those free when you buy a modem.

    Maybe so, but their service does not work correctly without it. The original was supplied by BT when they sent out the modem. Just seems poor customer service that they should expect the customer incur the cost.

    A "splitter" as you call it is actually a ADSL microfilter and it will normally be supplied along with your modem when you first subscribe to the service, normally speaking the equipment (incl router) will often become your property after the minimum commitment period ends (the 12 month contract you likely have)

    After which time if you want new equipment your options are to either buy it from the ISP or just go to a shop or enter a new contract period (likely 12 months) to get a free router pack (if available).

    to be honest Vodafone are been pretty nice by selling a dsl filter for 4e as you can often cost upwards of 10 -15 euro each in the likes of PC World.

    Your sighting that they have a duty of care but in fairness if its supplied by BT that means its years old so its actually your property now not Vodafone's so they have no obligation to replace it for free.

    If I was you I'd take the filter for 4e as its a pretty good deal,

    I disagree, pretty nice would be to send me out a piece of plastic that probably cost them a few cents for nothing.

    Maybe i'm just getting old and padantic. Have been with Vodafone since they took over and BT/Esat before them so I didnt think it was asking too much to be honest.

    They did supply you with one [yes as BT but Vodaphone has taken over for them so think of them as one and the same] I assume the one you have needs replacing due to age/wear and not because it's a faulty product?

    Then I don't see why they should supply another one for free.

    I'm an ex-BT customer, and it's my experience that "free" isn't in Vodafone's dictionary.

    Its faulty, everytime the phone rings/is hung up my connection drops! very irritating but thats not really the point.

    Anyway, I suppose I will pay them the four euro. I just want to point out that my grievance is not really with the €4, if I stood on it or the dog ate it or something then fine.

    I just thought it might of been a nice gesture from a company that makes billions of euro of profit every year to send me out a small piece of plastic without the need to charge the account.

    I'm just stressing that there's more chance of Vodafone not giving something away than any other company, based on my dealings with them over the past 18 months.

    Yep all phones have a filter connected, getting one sent out anyway so hopefully it sorts it. I've changed the router as well.

    How many phones do you have plugged in ?

    From experience, they can but its rare
    Its more likely its a device that is incorrectly connected to the OP's phone line, sky, fax, etc
