Hard Water from well

I have my own well dug and it feeds the house but there is a serious amount of lime in it.

I know there are ways to add a filtration system under the sink but is there a way to filter this water at source i.e. the well or else before it reaches the house?

My tank is in the garage so ideally the water needs to be sorted before it hits that.

There are water softener systems you can install in your pump house, i.e. your garage. Just just need to ensure it is frost protected.
I have this now (self-install, but all connections were already there from a previous softener which got busted by the Big Freeze) -

no complaints, works well. You have to remember to fill in the salt regularly, every couple of weeks depending on your settings.

Thanks morgana. That was the first website I came across actually and was hoping someone had some idea on it.

How did you frost protect your one, simply insulating it?

Yea, I just used immersion lagging jackets :P - works well so far (lowest temp after installing it was about -4) and is moisture/water proof.
I also have one of those frost protection heaters in the pump house/shed.
Will make some pics later :P

Ah no need, that's perfect thanks. I knew it was a stupid question but after last winter I was wondering if there was a new fangled way of keeping these things unfrozen.
