    Hey Boards,

In order to process visas for Mongolia and Bellarus we have to post our passports to the UK, and back. Has anyone done this already? I'm a bit nervous of putting such important documents in the post. If you've done it, did you use registered mail, and was everything hunky dory?

    Thanks!

I don't think you need a visa for Belarus in advance if you have an Irish passport.

Hi Zebra3 - can you post the section that you think exempts Irish passport holders? I can't see anything there exempting Irish passport holders from needing a visa.

I wouldn't be relying on a wiki page for visa information.

Yep - the embassy say you need one. And I can't even see anything on the wiki referring to Ireland on the page Zebra3 linked to.

Thanks everyone - I need a Mongolian visa and a Bellarussian visa - as per the original post.

Has anyone applied for these by post? Thanks!

To enter Belarus, you need a passport and a visa. You may get a visa in our Embassy or Consulate in your country or, if there is none, at the Minsk National Airport as you proceed to passport checking.

As you can see from the link below these is none in Ireland.

If you're still unsure mail their embassy in London, it'll save you a lot of hassle and lessen the chances if your pasport getting lost in the mail.

Make sure your passport is valid for six months after you enter the countries. A lot of countries have that requirement.

Thanks Zebra3. We are entering the country by rail, so that part is irrelevant. I have already been in touch with the embassy in London. I need to send my passport by mail to them. I covered that in my first post.

The 6 months validity after entry is standard for almost all countries which require a visa. My visa is valid for 8 years. I have lots of blank pages (just trying to pre-empt any other advice on how to apply for a visa).

Thanks for all of the other comments about visas/requirements etc., but as I covered in the original post, I need to send my passport by post, and my question is about whether anyone has sent their passport by post or courier to either of these embassies in London/any other embassy, and whether it all worked out fine for them.

I and a few colleges have sent our passports to UK based embassies a number of times to get Visa's. We used the Dublin Chamber of commerce to do this for us as they invoice our company directly.

The chamber of commerce however use a courier to send the application to the embassy and the courier then picks up the completed application and returns it to the chamber of commerce when I pick it up. Pretty much what you suggest and we have not had and problem in the past.

I highly recommend you use a courier company to send and collect it as they are more reliable. They are also the only way you can arrange someone to pick up the passport once it is processed. Once the embassy calls to confirm the visa is ready you can order your courier to pick it up. I also suggest you contact the embassy to check if it is ok to collect the completed application by courier.

Thanks a mill cyberspider. This is exactly the type of answer I was looking for.

Do you happen to know what courier the Chamber of Commerce use?

I've sent my passport numerous times by registered post with no problems, but of course, there's always a chance it'll get lost!
If you decide to go the registered post route, check with the embassy you'r sending it to if they return it by registered post, or you may need to send a PO to cover the cost of this.
