To be honest i wouldn't be up for it. Dont like the reticle, a lack of mil dots or lines means you cant range find with it quickly. Nor can you aim of for angle to target (+ or -), wind etc. I have inch MOA adjustment myself but my brother is importing a scope that has mil adjustment (1 click = 1/10th of a mill, or 1 milirad line) which makes things a hell of a lot easier.

On top of that, his reticle is on the first focal plane so doesn't change in relation to your field of view when you adjust the magnification. That means a mil stays the same wether you have the mag at 4 or 24.

But its your buck, so if it floats your boat go for it, So long as it means you can reach out and touch em... :-) Just my 2 cent :-)

If you want to rang find, buy a Range Finder as reticle is only a guess

Simmons are good fro the price

If you want clarity be prepared to spend money.

Nikon would be a better bet, slightly dear but very clear

Aye lamping! I was impressed with that1 alrite but wasnt sure what to make of the bdc rectile thing! Would probably go for the standard rectile! Oh ya and would a 40 or 44 objective lens have much of a difference on brightness?

    Huge

I use 56 and the dif between 50 and 56 is very noticeable

If you can afford 56 get it.
If you can afford Quality scope with illum, Get it too ;-)

I can't see the exact scope you're looking at because 'weapons sites' are blocked at work...

But, I have a Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50 AO that I bought from Midway last year... It's a great scope for the .22lr- but it wouldn't belong on a lamping rifle IMHO.

The focus on the scope has a smallish sweet-spot especially when the zoom is cranked up- much more so than my Leupold with same magnification. Too much fiddling when a quick shot is needed.

The Simmons is also slightly less clear than the Leupold even though the Leupold only has a 40mm objective.

I would doubt Very much if the Simmons would stand up to centrefire recoil.

I would be careful when reading american reviews of rifle scopes- I have a Bushnell Buckhorn 4-12x40 and to read the reviews you would think it was as good as a VX3. It's junk!

As with everyting its all the parts that when they come together make it work.

If your planning on night shooting under the lamp at 300m then you need good equipment that work well together. 40mm objectives just won't let enough light through for a good view.

And the lamp your using needs to be up to scratch as well to let you see what your aiming at, at those longer ranges. If you divide the objective lens size by the zoom your get the image size that your eye see's.
    So 40mm/10 zoom = 4mm, 56mm/10 zoom = 5.6mm a big difference when viewing and makes for a much clear'er picture.

I have a Bushnell 6-24x50 used @10 zoom and a Lightforce 170 dimable lamp, a good combination for fox shooting under the lamp.

Yeah i was wo wondering because they have some great reviews on low end scopes that I know to be sh*te.
Thanks for the explanation of the objective lens clive I never quite knew the theory behind it just that bigger was better!

And I read somewhere that your eye's iris opens up to 7mm so that's the optimum sight view and why a smith and bender 8x56mm fixed scope works so well.
Don't rule out the better bushnell scopes just 'cos they have to produce cheap low end optics to compete with the imports from china.

Im just after buying a hawke eclipse 8X56 and it seems to be a great scope. Its clarity is nearly better than my old swift premier scope.:D

Yer not comparing great scopes there lol

56mm I think is the optimum scope, as any bigger is to awkward to mount et al.
Nikon make some the best precision Optics in the world for a very reasonable price tag.
