Something I'll never understand

Why is it that people get really worked up when someone throws an insult at them which includes their nationality? For example, "ya German prick" or "ya French fuck".

These on their own (i.e. "prick" etc) would not appear to cause much insult, but when you precede it with their nationality they go mental. Why is this? I've never understood it.

Myself, I've been called a Fenian bastard and an Irish prick, but I honestly do not get offended at all by this, and instead do be inclined to actually laugh. Should I be offended?

With the username UglyBolloxFace, I pretty much doubt you'd be offended by any insult!

This was all at the hands of Rangers fans in a packed stadium, so yes, yes I am indeed a fenian bastard if they say so.

Do you mix in certain circles and encourage or bait people into throwing insults as part of the norm ?

Ah, there's your answer. Who cares what Rangers fans think about anything?

They feel obligated to defend the whole country, even though you're only slagging them...

    MMMMMM ...interesting supposition all right.

Me ... i feel we have become so inured to insults that they have lost their impact.

I made a little mistake the other day while driving and a guy rolled down his window and called me a "fcukin prick"....wasn't in the least offended and indeed ...given the error i had made was inclined to agree with him !

Still gave him the finger but....

So I feel if I really want to insult a ..say a German Colleague there is no point in calling him a prick 'cause he will probably readily agree that all Germans are ...well pricks ( not a view that I share)

So I have no option but to call him a "Fcukin Natzi lovin superior German prick"
Or a Spanish colleague ...a Greasy Spanish Spic"

Now that does get them going............

Personally, I think it's because they are taking an unnecessary stab at where I come from, and not addressing the reason of why they found me naked under their mother's bed.

If someone called me a German basterd I wouldn't be offended, more surprised what with not being German.

Got called a British bastard once by a German. Wasn't sure how to take it.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Should have called him an Austrian bastard.
    German/Austrian, it's all the same

Ah, now the problem there is that he may well have actually been Austrian!

Someone calling me an insulting name because I'm Irish is outrageous - I want full credit, on my own, the rest of the nation is not entitled to share in the glory of the insult directed at me.

I think it's similar to the feeling you get when someone insults your family, it's the sense of affinity a lot of people have.
Maybe also it's because the country can't stand up for itself, and if you don't defend her honour, who will!?

Wouldn't get insulted by anything really... Anyone could say anything and I'll let it pass.

I'll never understand how so many people in supermarkets think they are the only one there. Absolutely no sense of other customers wanting to get by or reaching for something that is now barricaded by their trolly.
People moseying down the middle of the aisle daydreaming, fcuking pushing their trolly sideways, while yapping to some other dozy twat as their kids are running around pushing each other or kicking a ball around.
Just because you are wandering around this place since last Tuesday with no clue what you are getting / looking for, doesn't mean someone else* is in the same 'sure we're in a recession, lets just wait for death by walking around TESCO' kinda mood. It might be worth my while looking for one of those electric cattle prods on ebay, or souping up my trolly in a kind of Robot Wars style. Put a bit of pep in their step.

*(with their **** together, i.e. a list, or at least a very clear idea what they are looking for and has other stuff to do outside of shopping hours)

I wonder is it because of the racism
