Hi folks, um, first post to Boards.ie, hopefully not breaking any rules or stuff, just looking for some advice.

My eight year old son loves rugby. Obsessively. Watches on TV all the time, plays for his local club (in south Kildare) and has no interest in soccer or GAA. So far, fair enough. He trains on a saturday, plays well, enjoys it. He'd play every day of the week if he could.

Now I'm not thinking what most of you think Im thinking. I don't think he's the next Keith Earls or Cian Healy or Eoghan Masterson. I'm not taking out a mortgage with his international career as security. He might decide in a years time that he prefers table-tennis and if he does I'll help him and support him there. But he won't. As I mentioned, he loves rugby.

So. We have discovered that clubs in Dublin train on a Sunday. My wife and I thought it would be great for him to play in Kildare on a Saturday and then to play in Dublin on a Sunday. Is it allowed though? Can you be a member of two clubs? What if we sign him up for both and say nothing? If he's caught will there be trouble?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and offer advice and suggestions. Sorry about the length of the post.

Great that he's really interested in the sport but you cannot play for 2 clubs at the same time and do not sign him up for another club without saying anything to his current club.

Does his school play rugby? If they dont mention to parents council etc about looking to get a leinster branch development officer to come and do sessions at the school.

    Jaysus that's incredible. Fair play.

But I'd agree with Ormond - might create some bad vibes. If you are going to do it. Say it.

you say here that the dublin clubs TRAIN on sunday but then say play, which is it?

There probably is less an issue training with a different club, but if he is not going to play for them, what is the point?

    The aptly named Riskymove :-)

Generally in Dublin when it comes to the rugby for yound lads at the Weekend, schools play on Saturday and the heathen clubs play on Sunday.

One issue is that an underage player (as far as I know) cannot play more than one game within a 24 hour period. Secondly I am unsure about playing for two clubs but your son will have to be registered for both clubs and will have a registration card and ID number so you wont be getting away with going under the radar. Your best bet is to contact the Leinster branch and find out as if you are breaking regulations and something happens to him playing for his 'official' club he may not be insured.

You cant start 2 games in a weekend but can be involved in 2 games, i regularly have played subbed u21s saturday and then started 19s on sunday

He wouldnt be able to get an IRFU card with the 2nd club as he would be in the system already,
Ask a rep on leinster mini rugby committee as they will be able to help, see the leinsterrugby handbook(page 19) here for details on how to contact the minis rep in your area
As i said already the best way for your child to get more rugby is to look to get it played in his school

Thanks everyone for your replies and your suggestions. There's certainly food for thought here. Im curious about registration cards and numbers with the Leinster branch. Himself has played for his club for over a year and we've received neither. Should we have?

    Thanks again for the replies.
