Big day today with Clarke and Lowry in final 2 groups.

Great to see if Jose can make a win.

Wood leading by 4 going for his maiden tour win so should be interesting.

Jesus Maria ARRUTI starts 11, 4, 7 to be +10 after 3 holes

Hope Lowery has the stamina it probably suited him out early yesterday before it got too hot.

Gas he texted my pal here Thursday and he said he was wore out and looking forward to a break he's not playing next week.

Bloody hell, what a nightmare start. Wood starting poorly makes it all the worse.

Just pulls one back there on the 6th..

Like watching this fella, seems to be coping a lot better these days

In fairness to Shane Lowry has anyone seen the scoring today???!!!!

The conditions must be brutal because the best score currently is only -1.

There are a whole host of good players after shooting 5, 6, 7, 8 over par rounds out there.

As I write this Shane is back to level par.

    I think he has a chance here ! :)

Shane just 2 behind now. Come on big man!

Clarke first and then Lowry in the group behind both dump it in the water!

Splash for both Lowry and Clarke on the 11th and that's the end of the Irish challenge

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Although Lowry has given himself a chance to get away with just a bogey...what a 4th shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭fonda

    Ye brilliant recovery shot!

And still this tournament is not sewn up

Not over yet..Jesus that swimmer on the 11th could prove very costly for Lowry

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Very costly indeed. He's gonna need to start conjuring up some magic on some very hard holes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

    Go on Darren Clarke!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

Lowry made some balls of that.

+6 today so far, although I do fancy him to win The Open (at some stage!!).

That's pretty rough. I suppose with the record he has at the open that's a fair guess.

Looking at the conditions today, its no wonder its all good wind players at the top!

He had a lucky bogey while 2 ahead to stay one up...
Went to the next hole and played two woeful shots,an approach and a chip for another bogey, where Darren played just solid stuff bar a swimmer on the 11th.

Surprised at Woods, thought he had the bottle.

Hope he knocks that in! Well done Darren.

Complete implosion from Wood & Lowry today. Nice to see Clarke back in the winners circle.

To be fair Aidric, only 3 players shot under par the whole day so conditions were obviously very tough.

Well done to Clarke, would be great to see him climb back up the rankings again.

Oh I know that ya but they should have played as cautiously as possible, especially given the cushion Wood had at the start of play.

Besides didn't Lowry win the Irish Open in a storm. He should be well used to it.

I'm happy to see Clarke winning again. I hope he can keep the form up for a while, be nice to see him in some consistant contention again

That's probably what led to disaster. Very few players can protect a lead like that by playing safe, especially on a dried out course in the wind.

Wood is a very good player and agree with the earlier post that he could be a future Open champion. Played brilliantly in '08 as an amateur and very nearly made a play-off the following year. Still very young too.

But well done Darren Clarke - great round to win.

Happy for Clarke, there is a lot of life in the old dog yet.
    He's still a great player.

I'm very much enjoying following the progress of Shane Lowry. He's a solid performer, making a lot of cuts, and showing potential. He had a bad last 9 today, but he is good

Anyone know will he be at the Open in July ? or at the US open ?

Is it really 3 years since Clarke's last win when he held off that Dutch guy to win the KLM Open? Christ, time flies. Had the rub of the green at times today in very difficult conditions but great to see close the win out.

Great to see Ollie back too and seemingly have no lingering health issues according to the SKY commentators (he suffered badly for a number of years with his feet).

Great to see Clarke win. He still hits it as good as any of the top guys but his putting is very suspect. He played super golf to be fair in very tough conditions. It's a wonder he has never had a better record in the Open as the way he played today would make you think he revels in the tougher windy conditions you more often than not get on the links.

Good experience for Shane as well. Will have learnt a lot from today - much more than we he won and will gain a lot of confidence from being in contention. Hopefully this really kickstarts his season and he goes to contend a good few more times. Under pressure he probably needs to improve his approach play and his bunker play was poor today. He also went at a few pins like 11 when if he had the experience he may have tried to hit middle of greens as eveybody was imploding bar Clarke.

Also super to see Olly back contending. Class act and what a clutch player. If he continues to recover he is capable of contending in a few more majors!
