i found a hair embedded in a baked item from an upmarket supermarket. I have the receipt etc. I see the food safety authority recommend I report it. What should I do and what outcome should I expect?

Was it one of their own brand products? If so report it to them. If not I would report it directly to the manufacturer of the product.

Approach it as if you are doing them a favour for all their customers.

If you have the packaging, they'll be able to find out the date it was made and whether the hair came from them or from a supplier.

In normal food safety situations, they'll impress on their staff the normal health & safety measures and try and ensure this is not repeated.

Approach it the right way and you should find yourself rewarded for bringing it to their attention.

Sounds like good advice. I'll bring it down to them now. I'll be concerned and goodnatured with them and see how I get on.
