Setanta Sports Cup Final about to kick off..

Going to give the aul LOI a crack over the Summer again, anyone care to join me?

Lost touch with the scene over the last ten years.

Looks like a great atmosphere here.

Who should I look out for? I've heard good things about Finn at Rovers?

    Cheers boss.

    The wind is vicious here.

Can't believe Colin Hawkins is still going. I remember Pats fans chanting for him to play for Ireland sown in the RSC 11 or 12 years ago!

I've been keeping an eye on Pats the last couple of seasons. One of their players works with me so always keep an eye out for how he's doing, plus their assistant manager is a customer of the company I work for.

Clubs should really try and promote themselves a bit better at the end of the UK leagues ( free Champions League ticket !! )

Pretty sure there is a small break soon on the Eirtricity League.

Had a cousin playing for Sligo Rovers. Used to travel up to the Shoegrounds every Sat night a home game was on. Some of the best soccer games I was at, also admittedly so of the worst!!!!
Miss going to LOI games though.

Don't go to as many Rovers games as I should really. Probably get a ST for next season when I'm fully licensed to drive.

If you enjoy it over the summer there's no need to stop there as matches won't clash with EPL/Champions league fixtures for the most part

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Reasonably impressed with this game so far. The wind is making it really difficult, but they're botht trying top play ball at least. The young fella Hector at the back for Dundalk looks decent, but he keeps playing the ball ot aimlessly from the back.

On loan from Reading. Not sure how it came about

Would encourage anyone to pick a club and get in a few games over the summer. Ever little helps, if a couple of you became regulars it would be all worth it.

    Enjoy.

    Forza Shelbourne.

1-0 Rovers, Dundalk playing their way back inot it. If they get the ball down theres a goal in it for them, their last attack had some lovely football.

Finn with a quality bit of work for the goal.

I'd imagine there'll be a few English sides sniffing around Tallaght for him in the summer.

    Thats her, 2-0. Decent strike.

That little bit of quality in the final third won it in the end.

I've started going along to Rovers games with my mates who have ST this season. So far I've been to:

Pats, Bray, UCD and Sligo. All at home.

Went in with complete intention to throw myself into it full blooded and give it a right go and have to say I've yet to been at a game so far I didn't enjoy (aside form maybe Bray). Having players like Finn to watch every week certainly makes it easier to get into, he's a fantastic player and I actually get a genuine buzz when he gets going in a game.

My first time seeing him in a full game today and I was not disappointed. Lovely little ball player. I wonder will they be able to hang onto him?

I'd say it'll depend on how well he does in the European games. He'll have about 2/4 games to put himself in the shop window - worked out well for Keith Fahey a couple of years ago when he put in two big performances vs Hertha Berlin while he was a Pats player.

Hardly necessary, there are scouts over here every week. He just needs to continue playing the way he is.

Prem/top 6 champo h clubs dont care about how our players play in the league, only care about Europe.

Interviews with Mc Leish and Moyes about coleman/fahey they both slate the league as a non event.

Im sure lower teams will take a punt on a player form the league but dont see rovers selling him cheaply so would rule out most of them.

Faheys price should be the benchmark.

350k up front and possible 350k in bonus (apps in following season, promotion and international), think it ended out at 575 as trap didnt play him within a year or something.

Finn is tied up on a 2 year contract afaik...not a hope of Rovers keeping him, so it might be shrewd business...

I thought he wasn't the best overall player on the pitch who was no 22 McCormack, but he was at the heart of anything creative

Smashing player, we were due to sign him but he went with Rovers. Odd as he only had a trial with Rovers and was possibly gonna give up football if either of us didnt sign him.

McCormack is certainly a decent player.

Imo he's more of a bustling 'all action' player than Finn. He'll be involved very regularly for 90 minutes. Whereas Finn can tend to fade slightly out of a game, but when he does get the ball there is a genuine excitement he's going to make something happen. Finn is good enough for a high Championship/Lower table Premiership club imo.

YES!! Support the league. the amount of people over the past few weeks I've been trying to get down the carlisle to no avail...shocking really, they'll spend more than the price of ST for ONE MATCH over in England,it don't bear thinkin about, theres a perfectly good league right here, and no doubt a perfectly good team less than 30 minutes drive away

Very strange statement. What game did Coleman play in Europe? Ah yeah that's right the game that the Albanian team were trying to throw and Sligo still lost

Shut up! Shut up! Shut uuuup!

    Albania never happened.

Anyways, Coleman didn't play in Europe. Everton bought him in January 09 and we played in Europe in July of that year.

    thought he did.

    Here moyes interview

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6829919,00.html
He's had no real footballing experience at this level, or any level at all, very little full-time training and very little technical work so we hope there is going to be more improvement.

    LALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOUU

What a game!! The pub afterwards was buzzing too, especially when some players arrived with the cup. Ronan Finn, I love you. Immense.

If anyone is thinking of going to a Rovers home game as a first timer maybe post in the superthread or here and organize a meet up.

I ****ing love Ronan Finn btw.

good call, why dont all the football supporters get out and give it a crack during the summer. you'll get your weekly dose of football and whatsmore it will be live and you never know you might even like it:eek:. and the games might get a few swelled ranks into the stands providing a better atmosphere like the good old days.
