I am going to test drive a Mondeo this evening with a view to buying. Is there anything to look out for specifically? It has 116,000 miles on it and just passed NCT. It's an LX model 115bhp I think. What would be a fair price for this car on a private sale.

    Thanks.

look out for fly wheel, vibration will idling will tell if this is gone, aside from that very good car, seem to be the more reliable of modern diesel cars,

LX models are 90bhp. Check fro full service history. Also give the steering good check over. IF your feel a "grabbing" as you turn it, walk away. Some Fords of that era had problems with the Power steering, either rack of pump.

Another thing that makes a noise/vibration on them is the serpentine belt driving the alternator - the tensioner is inclined to get rattly on them after a few years.
Its not a serious problem though, so don't be too put off by it.

I thought that TDCI engine only came on 115 & 130 bhp. The older TDDi 2l was a 90 horser alright.

More than likely a UK import if it has the 115bhp engine in the LX back in 2005, the Irish got the 90bhp in LX afaik. Easiest way to tell if it is a UK import is if it has cruise control. We didn't get that on the LX either here.

Biggest issue on those engines is the DMF (dual mass flywheel) which tend to go from 100k miles onwards.

also watch out for turbo and fuel pump problems, check if injectors have been redone

Nope, LX and some Zetec models are 90bhp. I used to think different until I went to price a clutch kit and found it was 90bhp, talk about cutting a man down...

There's a 90 and a 110/115 available on the LX. There's a couple of models not listed on the VRT or insurance websites. Any of the ford forums could check for you.

Yep, just found out that engine code SDBA is a 90 breaker. Have to admit that I've never come across that one on my travels.
