Ceramic braces on lower teeth. Risk?

I have enquired with several orthodontists about having upper & lower braces fitted.

As an adult I'd prefer the aesthetic of having ceramic instead of metal.

However some orthos I have contacted said they don't routinely fit ceramic braces to the lower teeth as there is the risk of them wearing the back of the upper teeth.

Whereas other orthos I contacted have not mentioned this.

Just wondered what opinions were on this risk?

    Thank you.

I have ceramic on the top and metal on botttom, my ortho said the ceramic are harder to remove and can be hard to remove from smaller bottom teeth.
You cant see the bottom tracks really so it doesn't really make a difference, Good luck with your treatment ;)

Some say that ceramic braces are less painful because they don t upset the gums. Ceramic braces either have semi-translucent ceramic brackets, which are good for very white teeth, or tooth-colored ceramic, which is good for little darker teeth. Either way, they combine in well. Ceramic braces are hard, especially if they are high-quality. They normally don t chip or break unless they are badly abused.

Really? Any evidence to back up this statement? I'd find it hard to believe that ceramic brackets would be less irritant to gingiva than metal.

I have ceramic braces on top and bottom teeth since August. My Ortho explained the options upon my first consultation and explained ceramic would be a good option for me as an adult. No problem with them at all since I've gotten them fitted apart from the pain for a few days after getting them tightened but you'd get that with metal braces too so completely normal.
