Interesting piece by howlin on rte there.
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0513/howlin-business.html

He says : "It would be desirable if Ireland could reschedule its debt and pay back loans over a longer period of time."

Is this an admission that the current path is not sustainable? Personally I would like to the debt paid back over 30 or 40 years. This way we may have a chance of avoiding a lost decade.

It would be a good way of keeping the status quo on goverment expenditure aswell and preventing the new goverment vbecoming unpopular, just make the adjustments already for fook sake and start to get this ****storm sorted..

30-40 years might be a stretch. even 10 years would help us immensely.

As this is a government minister talking about stretching out the debt. They must be pretty serious about it.

10 Billion a year in interest payments alone!!!
It is clearly unsustainable, it is also unfair and immoral to put private debt in the hands of the taxpayer. Stretching the time or reducing the interest is not enough some of those who gambled and lost need to take a hit.
