Evenin' all. Looking into various methods of heating a two bed apartment with no access to gas or space to place an oil tank or external boiler.

The existing system is electric storage heating which is all but useless and too expensive even with night rate electricity.

Someone has suggested FIR heating panels like the ones being sold at www.helvetica.ie. Has anyone any experience of this method ? Initial impressions are that they don't heat the air but rather the rays warm only the occupants, is that the correct interpretation ?

Any help or advice based on personal experiences greatly appreciated.

    Ken

Electric heating is electric heating, you pay for each kWh. And if it takes a certain amount of them to keep the place warm you have to pay for them.

    The link doesn't work b.t.w..

Contact an energy advisor, there might be subsidies covering a proper energetic analysis.

And to keep only a person warm without heating the room thick clothing is the only option.

Sorry about the link, it should read http://helvetic.ie .

The site says that these heaters use infra red to warm the occupants. It makes a deal out of the fact the air is not disturbed thus reducing dust movement about the house. Claims to use up to 70% less energy that conventional electric heating systems.

I really just need to speak with someone who has some experience with this form of heating to get their view/impressions/opinions on it.

    Thanks
