I think there is something coming on stream soon, I think you have to give your PPS/PRSI number when you sell them the deer, I stand to be corrected on this, as it is classed as earnings.

It is classed as earnings and therefore we should be paying tax on it. Professional stalkers have to pay tax on earnings from game dealers.

I never used a game dealer, never had need to.
But if I had, and they needed my PPS well I'd get Feck all after 52% taken off it
I considered it for rabbits as it is a shame to leave so much for the grey crow.
But it would not cover the price of Diesel to the nearest game dealer from me AFAIK.

It will could down poaching rapid as traceability and Tax will ward off fellas on the dole out for a quick buck.

If you really want to knock the poaching on the head, PPS Number ,+ Tags Issued each season to each licenced hunter ,If you need more tags during season apply for more , they grant them but it will keep things by the book .We all know that their are certain individuals who are poaching lots of deer , Read one of the threads today about lads out in Kerry Carrying deer off the Hill in May ,Thats Taking the P***.

There is the next problem if the game dealers are willing to take in deer no question asked then how will tags and pps numbers going to help with poaching ??

When it comes to section 42s could lads not get one for one spot then lamp all around em and say they shot them on land with licence.? Think the PPS thing has to come in asap and enforced.
Out poaching deer in my book isn't profitable unless you count your man hours very close to free if paying tax, so if enforced will cut out fair bit.
When the game dealers get meat do they sell in ireland only ever seen it for sale in superquinn but they have farmed deer on package.
If majority is being exported such a shame really as in best of quality meat, should be considered delicacy in my opinion, i wonder would bord bia or department of health ever promote as part of healty balanced diet.

I know that the saddles are sold in to the food services companies that supply the restaurants and hotels all over ireland. The problem is that there is not real demand for the shoulder and Haunch from the Irish restaurant business. So they are sold overseas.

The bigger meat processing types in Kildare, Meath & wicklow are selling the processed venison product into France so that's where most of the meat is ending up. The Guy in wicklow does both and I think the guy in Limerick/Clare is only supplying the meat for use in ireland.

The venison you see in Superquinn is brought in from northern ireland, its called Oisin Venison and is farmed deer from a company called finnbrougue,

I was speaking with a guy from Cork who tells me that the fella who operated in Tipperary is collecting the shot seed to export them to the UK where they are processed and sold into Europe.

I also read that 35K deed were shot last year, there's no way that's been consumed in Ireland, the meat producers see this as an easy buck and have driven up the demand for the product.

Don't know what the solution is, there is a demand at home and abroad for venison, but if the shooting of wild deer has become totally commercialised then I can't see how this won't result in a scarcity of deer over the next few seasons.... what then?
