I have came up with a new business venture, but I am wondering what is the story with grants. Im not open to say what the venture is awhile in public but its something that is not in Ireland at all and is being cried out for.
Im in the market for a company van, office equipment and the likes. Might sound stupid but would a grant be available to fund this? Said id ask on here to see other peoples experiences.

Enterprise Irealand do grants for startups, but you have to have a product or service that has export potential and potential for exponential growth. Other than that I think you're only entitled to advice and guidance.

Well thats me shot down already :( The product is abroad already but not in Ireland. So no grant will be available Im guessing a sit will not need to be exported

Probably not. But try them anyway, they will help.

There are lots of agencies you can approach depending on the business type - Enterprise Board, Leader etc. A good starting point would be your enterprise board. AFAIK you won't get a grant for a van but you can use someone like First Step for that.

Enterprise Ireland are for larger companies with export potential, you need to approach your County Enterprise Board.

Hunter, you are the kind of guy I was trying to help with the thread about helping the gov....but it is dying a death because no-one who actually needs the finance for startup has actually commented...

ElRifle I think we need to distinguish between people who need finance for start-up and people who are looking to get a grant(for free).

Hunter21, have you finance to invest yourself? If you can prove to your county enterprise board that you have invested your own time and money into this project then they will definitely invest in you as a business. I saw recently a Darts Distributor(same idea as darts corner) in Co. Roscommon was being funded in part by the Roscommon County Enterprise Board so his main business would be the Irish market.

    Worth looking into anyway.

Reason I asked is because I am just out of college so funds are not massive to finance the venture. Im not going to rely on getting a grant, it wont be end of the world. Just said id see whats out there for new companies. I am not after a free lunch, I would happily come to an arrangement to re paying the grant

enterprise ireland deals with people who think they will be hiring 10 or more people and exporting

the local county enterprise boards provide grant funding as well to people who dont meet the above criteria, check them out

Hi Hunter, I was not criticising but rather seeking the full facts. Each company is different, some may require €500 start-up, some €5,000 etc.....

Local enterprise board seems to be the way to go. Can you tell us here what you will be doing?
