Seat Ibiza Centre Console/Head Unit problem

I have a 2004 Seat Ibiza 1.4 and over the last 5 or 6 months I've been having serious problems with the centre console. Basically when I'm driving the radio turns itself on and off with regularity. Sometimes it will go for a day without doing it but then other days it'll happen every couple of minutes.

It also turns itself on when the ignition is off and the key is out of the car and the car is in fact locked. This has resulted in a drained battery a couple of times. I've taken to removing the fuse for it, which also controls the heating display etc when I'm not in the car.

This is a known issue with Seats and I've contacted Seat about it but they must have been watching the show about Renault window regs cause they were absolutely no help. They said that without the car going up on a ramp they couldn't tell me anything!

Anyway - I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a fix for this or if there is anyone who knows where I can get the unit reconditioned? Or if you've had similar issues and had it fixed by a Seat Garage how much did it cost etc.

    Any input would be great!

    Tks
    Trip'

Get someone with vcds to scan it for you and see what comes up.

These lads in the UK fix them, however you may need to contact them to see if they will handle overseas repairs.

Had similar problems with our 2001 Ibiza, started with the centre console, radio on/off, and cigarette lighter / heating losing power then the wipers kept going on automatically / periodically, and finally the centre console and windscreen wipers completely died.

Brought it to a SEAT dealer in Rathgar and they replaced the wiper stalk, everything back to normal since then. Quite reasonably on price, under 200 euro for part + labour.

From researching online there are other potential fixes, one of which was a loose earth point.

The fault you mention is very common to the Ibiza and also the Cordoba which uses the same head unit.
My full time job is repairing ALL types of car audio equipment and your fault is a straight forward repair.
PM me if you want and I will give you all the info you need.

I had this problem in a 2000 ibiza, the one with the tape deck. Common problem. Simple solution was to put a tape into the deck and the radio won`t turn on again. This might help people with the older ibiza models.
